How long does testing for genotype take?

Hello everyone,

Hope you're all staying air-conditioned and enjoying a beautiful day.  Here's my question:  I was diagnosed a week ago and had many vials of blood drawn.  Am seeing doctor again in two weeks, but I'm anxious to know what genotype I have.  How long does this test take?  Thanks,

Pigeonca

Mine took about ten days, and when I went back to the Doctor they still didn't have it and had to have the main lab office fax the results.
I was SO impatient to start TX and had to have all the tests, ONE AT A TIME...  I first was discovered to have elavated liver enzymes and each test after that seemed like it took a month.

By the time I got in to see my GI I wasn't even genotyped yet, and that even irritated HIM. Well after genotyping--I was able to schedule a BX for three days later, and was on TX a month later.
I have absolutely NO patients. good thing I'm a 2b!

I found out in March, went and made a specialist appt after that and that took 5 weeks.  Got more blood tests then a biopsy after that.  THings seem to move slow in the Hep world.  You get use to it in a way.   Thank goodness the disease is slow moving too.

Mine takes 3 days. Call the doctor's office and ask them to send you a copy of the results when they get them. Mine send them every month to me.

I'm with Kalio on this one. It will make a difference who is running the assay, but Quest diagnostics, say, will turn that around in 2-3 days. Allow time for the sample to be transported, and your doctor should have results in five working days. There are always exceptions, but this should be close. Good luck on the results,

Generally it takes from 1 week to 10 days, as long as your lab normally takes to run a PCR. However, if you have an odd result it can take longer than that.  Mine was a 1A/1B so it did take longer so that they could check it again.
