I understand what you were trying to say. Tx has improved somewhat if you can call it that since your treatment. It had to be extremely difficult. Same concept when somebody posts treating duration time 24 wk - 48 wk -72 wk. Make no distinction between the three because if you do you will get lambasted even though we know there is a difference. It's all relative.

SOC is a cure but you will still have the Hep C anti bodies for the rest of your life, so you will test positive in standard Hep tests, because they look for anti bodies.

'The new therapy is a walk in the park!!!'
I do so not agree with you on that one...
A walk in the park??? I can even really get to the store on my road, let alone to the park...
Have you not seen how many people on this forum are suffering greatly from the current tx.
The bottom line is that everyone reacts different to treatment. And it is highly individual.
I was in the clinical trial for interfern / riba in '67........I have been UND since that. SVR!! It surley wasnt easy. You folks today do one shot a week of 1 million units. In the trial it was 5 million units every other day with daily riba. For one full year. It was worth it for me to clear the virus. I have been PCR less than detectable since then, The new therapy is a walk in the park!!! And the treatment does work. If you have 3 or 4 years before you die you could wait for current telapravir to be approved and treat somtime around 2012-15. Ya feeling lucky!!!??
Yes, SOC is considered a cure.

Interferon-alfa is used for the treatment of chronic viral hepatitis. The best results for HCV are obtained with pegylated interferon-alpha in combination with the antiviral drug ribavirin. Sustained response (cure) is obtained in 40% (genotype 1) to 85% (genotype 2 or 3) of treated patients. Interferon-alpha has many side effects, and the selection of patients for treatment should be made taking into consideration the individual prognosis and relative and absolute contraindications. New biologics are in clinical development.
