Highland hospital is excellent information for you.
By the way, you say you are 26 years old. Are you aware that you can be covered under a family health plan if one of your parents has health insurance through work?
For very little extra cost one of your parents could put you on their plan during open enrollment up until you are 27 years old. You could have all testing and evaluation done for your hepatitis C!
Below I have info on how you can get your own health insurance which will cover you from Jan. 1, 2014 on. As of next year most Californians must have some type of health insurance.
Starting October 1 of this year through March 31, 2014 is open enrollment in for low cost health coverage through the California state health insurance exchange, created by the "Affordable Care Act" passed by congress in 2010. It is called "Covered California" here in California.
What if I have an existing health condition?
You can still purchase health insurance regardless of any current or past health conditions. Starting in 2014, insurance companies will be required to sell policies to everyone regardless of current or past health issues, and they will be prohibited from using your health status to determine how much your health insurance will cost. You can purchase health insurance regardless of any current or past health conditions, and insurance companies cannot charge you a different premium."

"Covered California" will serve you and all Californians by helping to:
Improve access to high-quality coverage. More Californians than ever before will have easy access to a wide range of private health plans. More than 5 million Californians who do not have health insurance can benefit from lower-cost coverage. Covered California will help these individuals learn about the health coverage options that best meet their needs. We will also help millions more who are not eligible for financial support, but will benefit by using our marketplace and the insurance protections that will take effect.
Make health care coverage affordable. Covered California will help you find out if you are eligible for the sliding scale financial assistance that helps to reduce your health care costs. If your income is very limited, you may be eligible for free coverage through Medi-Cal. Covered California is also helping lower health care costs for all Californians by reducing the number of uninsured and the burden of uncompensated care that is a cost today borne by all of those who have insurance.
Improve the health of all Californians. When you have health insurance, you don't have to wait for small health problems to become big ones. You and your family will have access to preventive care and a network of health professionals who are trained to keep you healthy. Covered California will also work to promote prevention and wellness programs that help all Californians.

Glad you stopped using and are taking responsibility for your health. It will pay off for you. You are too young to be dealing with any health issues. Get the care you need and deserve.
Good luck!

If you live in SF, you can check at SF General Hospital to see if they have a Hepatitis C treatment clinic. It may be incorporated into another clinic, but you can find out where you should go for evaluation and treatment of Hep C by calling San Francisco General Hospital (if you are a SF resident).
i have it for sure. but i think i contracted it about 8 years ago
Ha! I missed that..I thought you were sure you contracted HCV. You can go to the Oasis clinic and they can advise you about testing and Highland Hospital.510) 834-5442

The first step would be to get tested, no need to put the cart before the horse.
There are several members from the SF area that can point you in the right direction for free testing
There is also Quest Clinical trial studies in San Francisco and though it is now pretty competitive to get in, it is worth a shot give them a call

Good luck, you will have to jump through some hoops and there will be a lot of waiting, but if you persevere, you will get help at no cost to you.
Good luck!
