“…very low levels of positive strand RNA virus…”
Should have read:
“very low levels of positive *sense* RNA virus”
--Bill
I'm one of those who did not SVR and I feel there is a cure, it's just a matter of when. I live the disease everyday but it doesn't rock my world or change my views. It is what it is.
I'm happy when I see people posting their SVR threads but I feel discouraged too. I think why not me, but on the other why should it be me? I knew the odds for geno 1 going into it. If your SVR thank the stars. I'm living the HCV and I just move on, try not to whine and do the best I can until it's my turn to post an SVR thread.
Personally, I don't think anyone was demeaning on this thread.

Cure is arresting a disease and it`s damaging symptoms.
I really don`t care if there is any virus as long as it can`t hurt me.
The world is full of viruses and the truth is we would not be here without them !
This becomes an issue of semantics and can be very confusing. Even some of those that achieve SVR will continue to test positive for very low levels of positive strand RNA virus per sensitive PCR testing. This residual virus doesn’t seem to challenge the concept of sustained response; it’s not thought to be contagious, it doesn’t seem to cause any further damage to our liver, and by no means is quantifiable in all patients.
Maybe a better term is something like ‘clinically resolved’, although many doctors use the term cure synonymously with SVR.
Good luck to everyone still in the fight—

Saying that there is no cure for HCV because it is not 100% successful is very misleading. Although of course rather then saying there is a cure, it would be best to state the percentages of people that are currently cured by genotype. As with any disease or illness that is considered to be curable it is not black and white. Is there any disease or illness that is 100% curable? If someone comes on the forum for information and they don't know there is a reasonably good chance of a cure they may never even try to treat it.
Some genotypes have a very high cure rate (around 80%)
The new drugs that are approaching market in the next 1-1.5 years have a success rate of 70-75 percent with geno 1.
Thank you. For all of us for whom treatment was not successful, and you are right, there is no cure for HCV, only treatment, and it's success rate and regime is not good.
I agree with Beblessed777
I am glade you folks were able to successfully clear HVC with treatment rendered. Unfortunately for many of use like myself we did not respond to treatment thus continue to fight this deadly virus. No there is no cure for HVC only treatment. As many of you already know current medical treatment for HCV is limited to pegylated interferon combination therapy. This therapy is effective in less than 50% of cases of HCV genotype 1 (the most common genotype in North America). If there was a cure then we all would be clear of the virus and there would not be estimated 180 million people worldwide who are infected with HCV, 4 million of those are in the United States and many nonresponders who await new drugs.
Please note: We are here to help each other triumph over this deadly disease and not to demean a fellow member for his or her comments.
Dave I am easy.........where have you been that you dont know that by now ;)
"So I agree with all the agreeable folks in here that we agree to agree!"
you took the easy way out. LOL
I treated 72 weeks and have been cured of this disease for over three years now.
You can beat this virus and regenerate your livers health and live a long happy hcv free productive life.
So I agree with all the agreeable folks in here that we agree to agree!
Miracles happen, even on the forum! ;)
so I'm telling you that you can get cured of this virus. If that wasn't possible why would people with Hep C go through the hell of the tx if they knew there wasn't a cure.. Exercise is good for your body whether you do or don't have Hep C..
Thanks susan400 I appreciate your experience. Im just hoping if I can continue to stay active this disease wont get me too down!
I can only speak of my own experience. Exercise has helped me tremendously. I'm not saying that it's a cure all, but it has helped my LFT's stay much lower than they were prior than my starting the exercise routine. My blood sugar, blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol, all in the normal/good range. Mind you, I have done 10 treatments and have been unable to get any undetected blood tests, but I'm living with Hep C and my biopsy is even remaining lateral (I had thought it had dropped a level, but was told by my study nurse that they were reading it as a lateral-same as last biopsy). Anyhow, my whole point is, is that I'm not really doing any natural herbs, no big time supplements, none of that stuff really and everything is remaining under control for the time being. I do the nautilus weight lifting equipment, spin classes, elliptical/cross trainer machine, stationary bike and treadmill. I recently attempted a zumba class and since I'm too much of a klutz to do the dance thing, that didn't work out too well for me. Yes, the exercise is very hard to make myself do it and sometimes I get very tired, but I've made the choice to make myself do it and I feel that it's paid off.

We really are an agreeable bunch when it gets down to the nitty gritty..............and that's a good thing, in my opinion - anyway.
Mike
I agree with Trinity4 who agreed with mikesimon who agreed with Diane who agreed with Densie.
FYI
at Weil Cornell Medical Center for Gastroentereology Dept. Hep C in NYC
home of one of the leading Drs in the field they have a big poster in the
waiting area on hepatitis. In reference to hepatitis C it says it is curable !
Its definitely not a charlie horse, its all day everyday, achy joint pain. I have had all my potassium/sodium and other blood work tests done with no answers. I think that is why my doctors continue to write it off as hepc symptoms. Im just lost I guess I need to continue to work to find another doctor! I live in a very small town and doctors are hard to find I travel to two diff towns just to see the doctors I do.
Yes Ive been seeing a variety of doctors for the last 2 years. They have come up with no answers. I have type 1a and my alt and ast were 72 and 121, stage 1 at last check up. The doctors seem to write it off that my levels are high so Im feeling crappy. Everyone kinda dismisses my symptoms to the fact that I have hep c. I know it seems weird to me that I feel crappy after only 10 yrs with the disease but no one has had any other answers for me. So Im trying to stay healthy in the mean time to build my energy up. I feel like if I run everyday and eat healthy my liver should respond Im hoping anyway that will happen. It is just depressing im 28 yrs old and I feel like an old lady my joints ache everyday!! I view my self as an active person and someone who is in very good shape I just wish I didnt feel so crappy all the time!
I agree with mikesimon who agreed with Diane who agreed with Densie. People cure everyday. Who told you there is no cure? If it was a doctor that that made that statement I wouldn't consult with him again.
Trinity
I agree with Diane who agreed with Denise- you should read something credible and educate yourself about this disease before coming on here and misstating the facts.
Your statement: "Remember they do not have a cure for us......" is misleading at the very best and basically it's just plain wrong.
Mike
Getting back to excersising....
There is a study that measured natural INF levels 24hrs after
excersising and it showed an increase in the body`s own INF
after doing a moderate 30min cardio
whereas quite a decrease after a 90 min more exhaustive excersise.
I have been an avid excersiser for over 20 years running, biking, swimming ect....
I know I will avoid any strenuous excersise from EOT until that deciding
PCR comes back.
Also in retrospect I would have stopped it the first few weeks on tx.
I agree with Denise. You should read some of the posts on here before you say things like "they don't have a cure for us". Lots of people have been clear for years because of tx.
Diane
What do you mean that they don't have a cure? I did the treatment and cleared the virus, 2 years this past March still clear of live virus. There are others that have been "clear" even longer than me.
