Ferritin After Transfusion

I had a blood transfusion because of very low hematocrit, ferritin and hemoglobin levels due to frequent nosebleeds. I left the after my transfusion with a hemoglobin level if 7.9.
Two weeks later, without any nosebleeds, my hemoglobin level was unchanged but my ferritin more than doubled (from 22 to 49). My body seems to be using the iron to replete my low iron stores despite my very low hemoglobin levels.
Is this normal?

It's not abnormal if you have HCV.  But you should have had at least a small bump in hemoglobin.

What I think is more odd is that your ferritin is so low to begin with.
