Peg-Intron: redused dose?! can I inject more to inscrease the concentration?

Hi,

I just posted a question about potentially being a slow responder. I am on IDEAL study taking Peg-Intron. I don't know if I'm getting the full 1.5 mg or only 1.0 mg og Peg-Intron

My sides have been very light, but I wonder if my response is affected by a lower dose?!?!?.

I get a vial with poweder and then I have to as .7 of water, then I inject .28 of medication. I wonder if I were to try to increase the amount of med what would happen? increase it by 50% to .42, and hypotetically it would give me the proper dose.

Can I overdose in case I already have the proper amount?

Thanks!!!!!

That's something I would take up with my doctor. None of us here are drs, a lot of knowledgeable people but not drs. Maybe in the am someone will come along and answer that understand the meds more than I do.

what size vial are you using? 80mg or 120 mg? in a 120mg vial if you put in .7 water and draw up .5 you have 120 mg in the shot. that means there is 24 mg per each .1 0n the needle. if you draw .4 you have 96 mgs in the shot. shots are weight based on 1.5 per kg.  i weight 140 lbs devided by 2.2 to get kgs or 64 kgs.times 1.5 =96 mg or .4 on the needle with a 120mg vial.if this is confusion let me know how much you weigh and what size vial you have and i will tell you what you should be taking per the manufacturer. that doesn't mean your dr. does not have a reason to change that.
bobby

on a 120 vial if you fill .7 and draw up .28 you are only taking about 72mg or what a 100 lb person should be taking.

this is only for vials not the redipen prefilled.
ps i just read where people have taken up to 10 times their dose with no bad side effects. do not try that. obviosly i have a lot of time on my hands to figuer all this out.

find the post below (way below) titled fishdics consult, it specifically relates to non responder issues.  The consulting physician advised me to "get every drop" but I am on the redipen, so I have no control....

hi, thanks for replying. i couldn't find the size on a vial bacause i'm on a study and they don't want me to know my dose. the size of a bottle is 1 3/8" tall and 5/8" in diameter. it has some powedr on the bottom.

i was curious whether they adjust the dose by concentration of the med in poweder or is it the amount I inject?

i tried to get it out of my doc but she said they don't tell docs either because most of the time they'd just reveal to their patients. is it true?

I upped my dose last night to .35, and i don't feel any different today. so i wonder.....

or btw, i weight 125 pounds.

thank you :)

sorry but without the vial contents you can not tell how much you are taking. it seems though if you are in a study and do not take what they ask the study results are flawed?
good luck and sorry for the poor results. the bottles are all the same size but say in large numbers  "120" or "80" if that helps.

what kind of study is this. it sounds like they want to know how LITTLE you can take and have it work.
bobby

ps the amount you take is the dosage as we all fill the bottle to .7 and only draw what is perscribed. you would normally be taking 85 mg at 140 lbs.
