HE without cirrhosis?

Hi all,
I will admit - I have self-diagnosed this and my specialist assures me that there is no evidence of me having it, but I was wondering - is it possible to have HE or something that *mimics* HE?

Recently dxed with hepatitis, but I have had two Fibroscans and three ultrasounds - both fibroscans put me at a 5 and 6 or 'little to no fibrosis' and only the third ultrasound found 'mild coarse liver in a subtle finding' which my specialist assures me is practically nothing. In other words - no evidence of liver cirrhosis whatsoever.

I quit drinking a month ago (around the time i was dxed) and in this months' time I have developed a condition that is frightfully like HE based on the symptoms I am reading. But I also read that this is only present in late-stage liver disease, and my doctors just cannot find any evidence of damage. I am pushing for a biopsy but my doctors have repeatedly assured me that it's practically impossible for me to have ESLD given all of my tests (which, admittedly, are OCD-level)

Any ideas guys? Feel like crap :/ I hear alcohol can cause some brain stuff to go wonky in and of itself though.
Also B12 is not low

No chance of Hepatic Encephalopathy.  Your doctors would know.  Quitting smoking can explain your symptoms.  Being a hypochondriac can too.

People like you are why insurance is so expensive.  Please, don't do any more expensive and unnecessary tests.  You are fine!

And, if you have HCV, just treat it and stop worrying.  You are fine!

No matter what your diagnosis - and self dx can be a way to drive ourself crazy so don't do that - DRINK PLENTY OF WATER!!!

Dehydration can certainly cause certain brain symptoms, plus you have all those old toxins in our body that need flushing out.  So many people do not get a 'regular' amount of water, never mind the amount needed when ill, or on meds.

I am not trying to say this is a magic cure - just that it is something everyone needs and it may help and certainly can't hurt.

'Regular' amount of h2o = what you have heard all your life eight 8oz glasses of water a day.

what we, on meds, are strongly encouraged to do = 1 oz of water for every pound of weight, up to one half our body weights, i.e., weight 150 lbs, drink 75 oz water daily.

Good Luck with your symptoms and your health.

You have entered the arena of a true Catch-22.  Since you have understood, examined, evaluated, researched and engaged medical professionals in an informed and lucid conversation on the subject of Hepatic Encephalopathy you can't possibly have it.

Sorry you are going thru this but do believe I have your answer.  Sounds as tho you are having an issue with Anxiety or panic attacks.  These mimic the same symptoms as HE.   The problem with having General Anxiety Disorder or GAD, is that the more anxious you become, the feelings of HE become more pronounced.   It's almost like a Catch 22, or a Vicious Cycle.  You have been given reassurance from your Drs, but in your heart and mind you don't believe it.   The mind is an amazing powerful organ, and we can think ourselves sick.  The best way to rid yourself of this self doubt is to become knowledgeable about this Syndrome.  Google GAD.  Once you read all the symptoms, you will then realize this is Anxiety driven and not a liver disorder.  The realization will then
decrease your fear, and in turn, the symptoms will then be resolved.
Take care
~Kim
