I started tx today

Well, the day has finally arrived -- Tuesday, 13 September 2011 -- I have commenced my treatment, "the cure," I should say, God willing.

I'm on the triple cocktail: Interferon, Ribavirin, and the cazillion dollar kicker, Incivik.  I took my first dose this morning, after a breakfast of yogurt, fruit and granola, and just to be sure, I know it had to be more than 20 grams of fat!!!  I will be taking my first injection on Friday.

Now, I'm going back to bed!

Have a great day, everyone... :)

thanks everyone for your comments and well wishes... :)

now, i'm worried about not starting the interferon today -- My intention is to get on a weekend schedule with the shot, so I'd have the weekend to recover... I suppose I could have waited til Friday to start everything, but it's a little late now...

okay, now I'm officially freaking out that I just screwed everything up.  My doctor knows I started today, and I don't have an appt with him til Friday, and he seems to be okay with it...

oy vey!  Now i have something else to keep me awake at night... LOL

If I recall, in the trials the patients started all three meds at the same time except for the trial which had a 4 week lead in with peg & riba.  We've seen many who are taking the shot in the PM but all three meds are started on the same day.  I don't think I've ever seen anyone wait 3 days to start the interferon and ribavirin.  I don't see how that will enhance the treatment.  The PI is doing it's thing, primarily within the first few days and makes no sense to me not to have the clean up crew (peg & riba) on the job at the same time.

You might want to check with Vertex or your doctor about not starting the Interferon until Friday.  Are you taking the ribavirin?  The prescribing information clearly states all three must be taken.  I understand someone starting Incivek and dosing throughout the day and then taking the interferon shot that evening but having 2 days between Incivek and interferon isn't the protocol.

Congratulations on the decision you have made on starting treatment. We are all together on this and we will beat Hep C!

Before you know it you will be on week 21 like I am, today is shot 22 for me, and with a very good possibility of ending on week 24.

It's not easy but with lots of Faith, being very positive, and the support from the wonderful people on this forum, you will get through it. You WILL find your cure!

Good luck!

Congrats !   I hope you make it through this with no side effects.   My advice to you is to drink a gazillion ounces of water today!    I started yesterday with pills all day and drank about 120 ounces of water, it really helped.   Did my shot last night at 8:30 pm and about 1:30 Am it started kicking me in the hiney with the chills and fever, but I slept through most of it.    This morning , I feel kind of achy but not bad :)      I think the big secret here is eating with your pills, and lots of water !  So Good Luck Kiddo and I hope you have a great day !
