Help

My doctor ran a hep c test that came back as reactive.  Then followed up with another test that says

5/13/14 Hepatitis C Rna, Pcr, Quant
Component Results
Value Std Range
HCV RNA, QUANT TMA1,039,825 <43
HCV RNA,Quant,bDNA
Value: 6.02
This test was performed using the COBAS AmpliPrep / COBAS TaqMan HCV Test Kit
(Roche Molecular Systems, Inc).
Standard Range: <1.63
Units: log 10

This was all caught during routine test and comes as a shock.  Now, an ultrasound is ordered and an appt with a specialist. .   I have no symptoms and I am totally healthy.  What if I do nothing?

Hi there, I am sure you are in shock. I am sorry, I remember how I felt when I found out.  I thought it was a death sentence. You might want to wait until you see a hepatologist.  If you have little to no damage you can wait, the virus, as I was told is slow moving.  You won't know until you get a liver biopsy to see if your liver is damaged and if so how much.
I felt perfectly fine when I was diagnosed,  I was told that I had time to think about what I needed to do.  Then the biopsy was done and I was in the beginning of cirrhosis and told if I did not treat I would need a transplant in  to 10 years.
You may want to do more research into HCV, the problems it can cause.
If you go to the top of the page there is a magnifying glass icon click on it u can search for anything you need information about,
As Candayce said there is new medicine out now that is much easier and a shorter time period
Keep in touch, Dee

I am so sorry you have just found out you have hepatitis C, but the good news is there are great new treatment options out and coming out in the next year

I had it for 43 years, and now got rid of it in 12 weeks

Get a good Hepatoligist , not a gastro

Good luck!!
