You sound tremendously relieved. I know I would be.

Perhaps another moral to the story is that ALT & AST within the reference intervals does not necessarily mean one does not have the virus.

Mine were only slightly out of range of the LabCorp reference intervals when I was first tested (2003) and have always been lower or mid-range ever since. Don't remember what the LabCorp reference intervals were back then. I **think** something like ( 0-55 ALT / 0-40 AST ). But I was positive for HCV AB & negative for A, B & HIV)

I just noticed on my current labs the LabCorp reference interval for both values now is 0 - 40 and on 13 Jan 2012 my baseline AST was 29 & ALT was 27.

I'm just saying while ALT & AST values are the key (red flag) indicators, alone they aren't entire meaningful. In your case, you were understandably freaked and worried and in my case I may not have ever tested for HCV since my labs were basically OK.

James I thought the same thing, called my doctor made an emergency appointment - got there and he laughed at me.

We get obsessive a bit dont we?

I am VERY VERY glad for your good news!!!!!!!  Just remember they go up and down up and down up and down LOL unless they climb into the hundreds I wouldn't freak. Although in June I was in the hospital and the doctors were freaking out mine were so high - turned out it was related to my heart having arrythmia and bleeding ulcers in my gut (was a bad time for me lOL) somehow, had nothing at all to do with my liver. I knew it didn't but they started freaking me out because they didn't know!

But now you and I both do, we've learned that lesson the hard way ;)

SO happy for you and your peace of mind!
