Genotype 1 and 6

My labs came back as G1 and G6 positive.  The hep doc said he had not seen that before.  He has been involved with with a few trials already too.  He put me on solv/oly/RIBA anyway,  Does anyone know if this is new with lab crop or a cause of concern with this treatment regiment?

SOVALDI in combination with ribavirin for 24 weeks can be considered as
a therapeutic option for CHC patients with genotype 1 infection who are ineligible to receive an Gilead Sciences 3 interferon-based regimen
[See Use in Specific Populations (8.8) and Clinical Studies (14.4)]. Treatment decision should be guided by an assessment of the potential benefits and risks for the individual patient

Gen 1 is still requiring Interferon. If you dont want to use it, you may like to wait for better combinations. Sofa/Riba is for Gen 2-3.

Hi LurkandLearn

I did a quick internet search and did find that although it is less common there are patients infected with more than one genotype of hepatitis c. Also since Sovaldi w/ Ribavirin works on both genotype I guess you will kill two viruses instead of one.

I doubt this in anything new at lab corps they tested for you genotype and found two.

Hopefully it all will be a moot point in the long run.

God luck
Lynn
