How are there so many caring people ?

This is mostly a comment to the caring people in this forum. You are the most considerate, caring, conpassionate, and helpful people that I have ever met. Without hearing from you guys i Would be the most depressed person in the world. What is so amazing is the fact that all of you have the same problem i do. I appreciate you all more than I could ever say in words. As I have posted I was diagnosed with hep C 2 weeks ago and then last week receved a message on my answering machine at home from the nurse at my doctors office that I also have cirhhosis. I have been severely nausiated everyday for 2 months and have no clue whats wrong unless its beause of hep c or cirrhosis. The sorry doc tor that I had said its only gastritis and gave me samples of nexium. I am pretty well sick to my stomach 23 hours everyday. Anyway, I love all you great people. You are like real brothers and sisters.

Hi Floyd:

So many of us have felt alone and depressed and found support and encouragement in this forum while trying to deal with the impact of hep c in our lives.  My husband, like you, was diagnosed with hep c at cirrhosis stage in early 2007, and this forum helped me through a great deal – it’s a haven for all kinds of hep troubles.  I’ve found an incredible amount of knowledge and caring here, much more than I ever expected – a belated welcome to you.

I know when you first get the news about cirrhosis it feels absolutely devastating, but know that cirrhosis is NOT a death sentence.  It certainly is an alert for you to take your health very seriously, and to be proactive now in doing well for your liver and your body.  Use the knowledge you now have to take steps to slow down further damage to your liver: no alcohol, limit the red meat as much as possible, good hydration, and low salt and low fat foods are just a few things you can do now to help prevent complications of cirrhosis.

My husband has nausea issues too, but he’s adapted to eating frequent, small meals, no fried or salty foods, high protein if possible, and he finds limiting his meat consumption helps him feel more comfortable (he does pretty good with fish).  Sugar-free candies and bittersweet chocolate in small amounts also help him with the nausea episodes.  I hope you have a good hep doc, and if not, you should seek one out as soon as possible – it’s important to have someone familiar with cirrhosis to help you manage your health.

Best wishes to you, and keep positive – and you know you can always come here to try and seek out answers and support.  ~eureka

I feel much the same way you do. For the last 7.5 years there has always been someone (JennyPenny, mkandrew, mikesimon, Bill1954, and many, many others) who have always been there for me during tx and post-tx. All you can do is learn as much as you can and try to pay it forward to the next group.
It's what people do.
