Nan535,
I would love to find out your suggestions you have to support liver health while waiting for tx. Diet wise and/or supplements.
Thank you!
Genotype 1a and 1b are the most common genotypes in the US.
There is a new combo pill for Geno 1 that is expected to be approved in mid-October that does not require interferon or ribavirin. The trials show a 90+ cure rate with this combo pill for a 8 to 12 week treatment period.

I would ask the doctor if that is his/her plan for you. As i mentioned in my personal note, if you do wait to treat, make sure you take good care of your liver in the meantime.
Good luck!
Nan
My genotype is 1a. Does that help you with my question.
Stikenh - I have sent you a personal message.

Your doctor feels it's safe for you to wait. Stage 2 going to stage 3 would concern me too. Stage 2 was my time to treat. I treated with the las test drugs for the time. If I would have known what I know now and offered better treatment in 6 months.....I would have waited.
Best to you
I have my liver biopsy results. Where would I look for my genotype you talked about. Or what is genotype? Please reply, thank you for helping.

Hello! Welcome. I agree with above posters.
As Nan says there are new drugs coming out.
I don't know what Geno type you are or if you are tx naive so it makes it a little difficult to help.
There are many variables involved in tx. It is not a one size fits all so each patient is treated on an individual basis, have you treated? What geno type are you?.
There are tx's out there with no interferon though it depends if you are tx naive and what type geno you have
I would go with what your doctor is suggesting. It would give you time to do some research, try to find out the best option for you and your situation. Unfortunately I was rushed in to my first tx and relapsed the first time due to a lot of ignorance on my part and a lot of misplaced faith in the doctor. The second time I had a bit more knowledge, better luck, a better doctor and have been cured for 2 years.
Take Care
Dee
Six months is not a long period to wait considering you're a stage 2/3.
