everyone is different. for me the bedtime shot, next morning riba with an easy to digest small meal.
like oatmeal, little butter and sugar....but NO lunch, cause the first day of shot is my sick day,
(hurling last 2 weeks.)
for evening, tried to get a little chicken broth to stay down, then the riba, and a ice cream bar (sugarless, for the extra needed fat.
not to scare you, but if you do have a reaction to to INF shot the trick is to figure out how to get your Riba down and to stay down.
I'm also using dramamine (by rx) but it is over the counter also, you can get it oral, or in suppositories, for when nothing wants to stay down, and you need to use it, cause taking ALL your riba is mucho importante!!
hope that helps.
how about applesauce & a buttery waffle in the morning and lots of water....picking up more bottled water tomorrow for out weekend home away from home. maybe chocolate cookies for evening dose. then shot along with tylenol PM. does that sound like a good plan? Please tell me if I need to change any of that.
Just go ahead and start everything tomorrow. Good luck to you and like everyone said. eat something with the riba. I have a piece of toast in the AM. Works perfectly. Water - lots and lots and lots of water.
I had to take the am riba with 8 or 9 almonds and the evening one with ice cream. That is the only way I could avoid the nausea. Drink lots of water every day. I lost my dinner appetite on tx and only ate a little but I eat a big breakfast and I have lunch. I lost 17 lbs. which was good.
I do shot 20/24 this week. woo hoo! what has worked for me is to take riba 1 morning with food and 1 eve with food. I usually do my shot right before I go to bed.
As Nygirl said, yes take with food and drink alot alot alot of water. Helps with sides. I made the mistake of thinking that I could take riba on empty stomach (never ate breakfast) that was it... a mistake. HEADACHE!!! Even if you just eat an english muffin or toast, it helps!
And yes, tylenol or ibuprofen before shot, xanax also helps with the jitters even after 19 shots!
Best of luck!
Shari
Oops. Forgot that part mentioned in Jim's last sentence. Variations to treatment should be reviewed and approved by the doc(s).
My doctor told me that the timing of the two daily doses wasn't critical because of ribavirin's long half life. Because of that I took it with my two largest meals which happened to be anywhere from five to eight hours apart. The usual recommendation is to take your first riba pill the morning of the injection. That way you will get the full daily dose on the day of your injection. FLGuy had very good results by starting ribavirin early and personally I would probably go this route if were to treat again. Of course run everything by your doctor, because they have to know and approve of what you're taking so they can monitor things properly.

Half in the morning and half in the evening = 12 hours apart. Also, it's good to note to take them with food to help your stomach and make sure you eat some fatty type items because the riba binds TO the fat instead of just getting washed out of your system.
Make sure you drink lots of water and take two tylenol with the shot - it could help you a lot. You'll find your own groove. Me personally I took the shot at 6pm every week because for ME it seemed after about 4 hours or so it would start to come on. Then I'd make sure to take an Ambien at 9 and by 10 hopefully i'd be asleep. Eventually though during treatment most of us lose the ability to sleep even with sleeping pills...it's a hassle.
Good luck.
thanks, I will start today
If it were me, I'd start the pills today. It takes riba a while, many days, to work up to it's on-going concentration level. My last treatment, I started riba a week early and a full week befor the first shot.
On a daily basis, generally, half the riab in the morning and half in the pm. Although there are some people who break it down to 3 times a day.
