Increased ALT levels on treatment?

Hello all,

Firstly thank you to everyone who has been so supportive through the last 4 months of my partners treatment.  Apparently his ALT levels are rising while on treatment - although still lower than when he started.   The nurse coordinator he sees is  not all that helpful.  She thinks maybe it is related to the clonazepam he is taking to sleep.  Id dont beleive the rise is alarming but does anyone know anything about this.  All other blood work looks good.

Thanks,

I was also a Geno 3 and my LFTs were erratic during my 48 week treatment but still considerably lower than before treatment.  The treatment meds themselves can actually cause raised LFTs and the liver is doing a lot of work while in treatment.  It freaked me out quite a bit especially as when I first went undetectable my liver functions were soooo low (12 & 15) and then as treatmen progressed they doubled from those numbers at times. Within a few months of finishing treatment the liver functions cam right back down again and have stayed that way.  I am now SVR.

Also, some people do have higher LFTs than other and LFTs are also affected by other meds such as sleeping tablets, antidepressants, antibiotics.

Try not to worry, it is not neccessarily a sign of doom!

All the best!

Michele :)

I believe a member of this forum, "FlGuy" also had elevated liver enzymes during the course of treatment, and his treatment outcome was successful. Coincidentally, he was also genotype 3 and cirrhotic. Maybe he'll stop by to further assuage your fears... in the meantime, try to relax and let the meds do their work--

Only have a sec but here's an old thread started by one of my pals who did a short treatment like your hubby. She worried about her ALT -natch!! - but that great gal went on to SVR. Hope this reassures you both:
