Injection site question

So far all my injections have been in my stomach. I would like to avoid injecting in my thighs if possible due to the irritation at the injection site and the fact that my legs ache so massaging them would be difficult coupled with the irritation.

I just took my 4th shot so no irritation there yet, but the first 2 places have a brown colored appearance and the 3rd site is still red, itches, and feels like a bad sunburn. All these splotches are not quite as big as a tennis ball.

My question is: Is it ok to inject into these brown splotched areas? I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t inject in an area that is still red and inflamed, but these brown areas are taking forever to go away.

My next shot is when I switch from PegIntron to Pegasys so maybe the irritation won’t be as bad.

Thanks in advance for any advice. I may not feel like responding for a couple of days as I just took my shot and the next 2 days aren’t gonna be any fun. I hope the Pegasys is easier on me. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies.

I might give the thigh injection a shot (pun intended) and see if there is less irritation there.

I know I’ve got a lot more room on this gut of mine, but in the beginning I wasn’t spacing them to leave room for future injections. I just injected in a random kind of pattern. Now that I see how big the irritated area is, I can space them out more evenly.

I will inject in the brown areas if necessary, although it looks as if the area of the first injection has almost cleared and should be gone in time for next weeks injection.

So far, the shot I took yesterday has had much less sides than the first 3 and I’m hopeful that switching to pegasys will be even easier. From what everyone is saying, it should be.

Thanks again

when i was on TX, i was told to do a shot on the left side of my stomach, above the belly button but NEVER on the right side of stomach....id do that the first week, and then id switch between my left and right upper thigh....i always got the blotch and redness where ever i stuck the needle but it always seemed to be more irriated on my stomach, so sometimes id go from one thigh to the other for a couple weeks and then back to my stomach .................i hope this helps ,,,,ron

Did my first tx with peginteferon 24w got red and brown spots the red one itched in a irritating way could some times take long time to go away.

This time I´m on pegasys gonna take shot nr 17 of 48 this week no marks no itching what so ever so far. Hope the same will happens to you Good Luck.
Wait a minut got to check since no itching hasn´t looked for spots in a long time better check hold on.....got some small brown spot but don´t think they from injection though, because I´ve got them higher up on stomick aswell.

Anyway much better on pegasys then peginteferon (Although higher doses of both riba and inteferon this time) much lesser fatigue and other sx aswell .

My injections sites on stomach (after first two shots) also left a light brown colored circular area. (Pegasys)  It went away after a week or so.  My third shot I hit a blood vessel or capillary and had whopper black & blue.  That went away in a couple of weeks as well.  Never had any inflamation around the injection site but I rotate areas and haven't had any trouble so far. I think what you are experiencing if fairly common but if you feel it may more than a slight reaction to the med, ask your doc.  My doc told me to stop by if I was experiencing any hard red masses or pain and someone would check it out.
