My partner is new to treatment - just week one, he has not slept at all since treatment has begun, his clinic seems to be hesitant to give him anything for fear of addiction. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks everyone
Ambien seems to be most MDs' drug of choice for tx insomnia. It's addictive, but not in the street drug sense. Just that if you use it enough, you'll become dependent and when you quit you'll have an uncomfortable week. Using a benzo' with a longer 1/2 life to detox seems to be a workable stategy.
A lot of specialists who Rx IFN would prefer to have your family doctor Rx these type of meds.
Has he tried something like Benadryl? Sometimes this will work, but as desrt said if his clinic doc doesn't want to give him anything, try his primary doc. Hope he finds some relief soon. Is he taking his Ribavarin early in the afternoon so the "jittery" feeling is gone before he goes to bed?
