Is this really TRUE??? 24 week TX only if VL is <400K

I have been on this forum for over 3 months now, and today is the first time I EVER read that people can consider treating for only 24 weeks (after wk 4 and 12 UND, of course) if their VL is < 400,000?  I read all this in the post from the guy who wants to stop tx at 16 weeks.
Is this really true, or did I misunderstand something?   Is that true for SOC patients only. perhaps, or for triple theray too?

My starting VL is 6.9 mil, but I have kept that 24 week treatment prize in my vision.

Someone set this straight for me........please!

Thanks for the question. I was 6.3 ml on the VL. My doc says 24 weeks even though I only did 9.5 on the telaprevir. I have seen that statement about the low VL previously and glad to see it spelled out here.

I too would probably do what you are doing flycy. I hope this tx go round puts hep c out of your life.

el paso -- glad we got that straightened out.  It is easy to read some of the study data and misinterpret.  However the labeling infomation does not require a low vl for doing 24 weeks.  I hope that is all you have to do

flcyclist - refresh my rotten memory -- why are you doing 48 when you were UND at 4 and 12-- are you on SOC only with no PI or are you cirrhotic?

Thanks for the clarification....I think I just kind of over-reacted when i read that.  I should have realized that info  was for SOC patients, otherwise I would have heard that before if it would pertain to those of us on triple therapy.  I am treatment naive.
@ Flycyclist....if I were you, I would probably do the same thing. You are a wise man.  Also, in case things were to get real rough at any time, you could change your mind.  Win,win situation for you.
@ willbb...thanks for the link.

Treatment naive means that you have been never treated with any hep c meds before...

Sorry ..that last part didn"t look right

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18508296

CONCLUSION: HCV-1 patients derive a significantly better SVR from 48 weeks versus 24 weeks of peginterferon/ribavirin even if they attain an RVR.. Both 24 and 48 weeks of therapy can achieve high SVR rates (>96%) in HCV-1 patients with low viral loads and an RVR.

If you are on triple therapy .it does not matter what your baseline VL is. If you are UND. at week 4 and 12   as a treatment naive or a relapser you would only do 24 weeks(unless chirrotic and then 48 "may " be more beneficial.

Also  for people on SOC studies were done and people that had low VL 96%) in HCV-1 patients with low viral loads and an RVR.

I'm in the exact situation and have read the same information regarding the possibility of 24 weeks for those with a low VL on SOC and und at 4 and 12 weeks.  My VL began at 24,000 and believe me, I've considered only going 24 weeks.  However, the thought of having to treat again scares me, so no shortcutting the first trt.  I only want to do this once and want to give myself the best chances.  As long as there's no dramatic changes, I'm in for 48 wks  -currently at wk 23, almost 1/2 way there.

If I can find the reference, I'll post it.
