Difference of Geno Type 1-3

What do they mean when they say HeptC Geno type3, What is the differance between Geno type 1 and Geno type 3

Below is a compilation of information from various sources:
A genotype is a specific combination of genes.  Within the HCV, there are various genotypes or combination of genes that have been identified.  The genes of HCV have been sequenced and divided into 6 genotypes as well as many subtypes beyond that.  Each of these genotypes and their subtypes are like different “strains” of the virus.  When the HCV replicates, it mutates in its genetic code, thus developing into different “strains”.  HCV is divided into the following genotypes (main types): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. HCV genotypes are broken down into sub-types:
1a - found in North & South America; also common in Australia
1b - found in Europe and Asia.
2a - found in Japan and China.
2b - found in the U.S. and Northern Europe.
2c - found in Western and Southern Europe.
3a - found in Australia and South Asia.
4a - found in Egypt
4c - found in Central Africa
5a - found in South Africa
6a - found in Hong Kong, Macau and Vietnam
7a and 7b - found in Thailand
8a, 8b & 9a - found in Vietnam
10a & 11a - found in Indonesia
Genotyping of the individual’s HCV is needed in order to determine the most effective course of treatment.

Google will pull up tons of info on this.  Here is one.  Essentially genotypes are slight variations in the virus.  Geno 1 is toughest to treat.
