Has anyone had any experience with the "TIPPS" procedure?

I'm just wondering if anyone has any knowledge about this procedure, our doctor told us they are looking into that possibility since we haven't been able to keep his enlarged varicies under control. I've read about it, it sounds really scary to me.

Also do any of u know of anyone who has retreated with Sovaldi/riba for a longer period of time after relapsing the first time? Everything I have read/resesrched says cirrhotic patients should be treated longer. With my husband genotype the recommended time for cirrhotics was 16 weeks and non cirrhotic 12 weeks. Our dr only put my husband on 12 weeks even tho he's cirrhotic and has already relapsed once.

Right now we can't do any treatments at all, his hemoglobin is so low is not safe. Platelets got down to 40,000 and whatever blood level he is low on is a "8"
How would we ever be able to retreat if he's only getting sicker? I don't know what I should do, should we find a different dr? I can't just sit back and watch him get sicker and sicker without trying to do anything. If we even were ever able to, would retreating with Sovaldi/Riba for a longer time be worth it or is the odds against us.

I had a TIPPS procedure in 2013 before my transplant. It's a shunt they put in you through your neck area. Something is inserted of which I can't remember, because I believe I was knocked out. Not to discourage you, but it didn't work for me, but that's not to say it wouldn't for you. I've always been hard to treat or cure, but I'm back now and better than ever. I had a transplant shortly after. I had Varices banded three times. Best of luck...
