Liver Biopsy "Normal"

Dear friends, I called GI this morning as to your suggestion that "normal" was not a proper result. He said that the procedure itself was "normal" and the stage, grade, genotype would be days. You guys are terrific to help me; I stay isolated here with Mom and try to protect her from this. After all, at 90, I want to take care of her. I am so grateful to ya'll.

Good for you to hear more about it!  The more interest you show in your HepC the more you'll learn, and the more you learn the better you'll feel.  Good on you for caring for your Mom!!

Now that makes much more sense.

The more you ;learn the  more powerful you will feel over this disease.  It is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

It was probably a radiologist that actully executed the biopsy.  When they did the biopsy they harpooned the liver to get a chunk, sort of like takings a core sample.  The next step is to prepare the pieces into slides that can be viewed by microscope.  This part is usually done by a pathologist (although many experience hepatologists do this, as well).  The pathologist creates a biopsy report and sends the report to the doc that ordered the test.  This analysis and reporting can take a couple of weeks.  So, your doc is saying "all went well in the procedure and we are waiting for the biopsy report".  When you see your doc to review the results, make sure you walk away with a copy - it will likely be just a page or two.

As always ya'll know what I need to do. I was kinda depressed this morning. Can't spell, feel confused, shoulder pain for months, air head. I knew that something was going on no matter the "normal" diagnosis. I will make less sense from now on as this note is a struggle.

Gee have you spoken to your doctor about all of that because unless you are very late staged, most of those things would not be a problem with HCV until you are on treatment? In fact, most of us had HCV until we found out by accident.
