Liver biopsy

Are there any risk factors to consider when one is getting a liver biopsy when she has abscesses and when she has Hep C?

As with any invasive procedure, liver biopsy carries risk. These risks can be minimized with image-guided needle biopsy and an experienced tech/doctor. I’m unsure of how any abscesses play into this; and if her HCV is advanced, platelet count/blood coagulopathy will be checked in advance of the procedure.

The biopsy will yield invaluable info as to the urgency to undergo therapy.  If the patient decides to do treatment regardless of pathology results biopsy might not be required.

Best of luck—
