Low platelets

I am not on treatment. Is there anything I can take to raise my platelet count? I asked my hep doctor and he said there was nothing. Just checking with this forum.

Hi,

Actually there is a way to increase your platelets naturally. Without drugs. It is said that beetroot and soya bean can increase your platelets. And this one has worked for many...papaya leaf juice..i know it sounds crazy but it is true. U can even look up in the internet for papaya leaf juice increases platelets...gud luck anyway.

You can ask him (your doctor) about Promacta (eltrombopag); it was recently FDA approved for ITP, but comes with a host of side effects. I believe I’ve read that other steps have to be taken first for it to be prescribed. How low are your platelets? Does this condition prevent you from HCV treatment? If so, have you discussed the possibility of splenectomy? I believe that often raises platelets enough to qualify for HCV treatment, but I’d consider all other options first, obviously.

Best to you—
