The other option would be to wait until next summer when a new drug called telaprevir will be out. This drug along used with the present drugs will offer 75%+ chance of cure.

Best of luck

Hi Angie, and welcome to the discussion group. Sorry to hear of your hubby’s diagnosis; this must have come as a shock to you both.

Okay, the good part of all this is that he must have ‘compensated’, or early cirrhosis; if it was more advanced, he wouldn’t have been given the opportunity to treat. Decompensated cirrhotics are generally advised to avoid interferon, as it can make them worse.

Which drug will he be treating with; Pegasys or Pegintron? What sort of issues has his cirrhosis brought on, if any?

There have been quite a few folks in here that have been diagnosed with cirrhosis and have treated successfully; although admittedly it can be more of a challenge for them sometimes.

Do you know how low your hubby’s platelets are now? Is your husband genotype 1, I assume?

Take care of yourself, and again welcome,

--Bill
