Lexapro

I am on my 13th week of treatment and feeling moody and depressed.  My family phy.  just ordered me lexapro.  What can you tell me about it, pros/cons. I don't like to be on meds but I don't like being upset/crying all the time. Please give advice.

I am also on lexapro and was taking it before treatment.  I only take 5 milligrams, which is all I need.  It keeps me "normal" so to speak.  Like Bill said it will not solve your problems but I find I am much better at dealing with them.  The other thing is my co-workers, friends, and loved-ones are better off for it :)

I have been taking Lexapro for several years now; it was ordered for me before starting treatment. I’m not aware of too many cons; my understanding is that if you don’t require it, it wont do much positive for you, but very few, if any negative things.

It was the first antidepressant I’ve taken over the years that really made a difference in my attitude. While it doesn’t go about solving all our problems, of course; but it does seem to change the way we look at things, and makes life less overwhelming. I give it a two thumbs up; at least for me, anyway :o).

If it doesn’t do much for you, you can always stop, and either move on to another AD that might work better, or just get away from them all. Personally, I wouldn’t do treatment without them.

My old GI doc had two people commit suicide while taking interferon that he’d prescribed; so he won’t hand out HCV treatment anymore without having his patients on an antidepressant prior to treatment.

Take care, and let us know how it works for you—

Bill

i'm not on any ADs bc i felt that i'm currently not to a point where i can't function normally mentally.  personally, i believe that one pill less, is simpler and better for my overall health.  i have huge mood swings during treatment, mostly i am able to control.  also i fear that being on AD for so long would be hard to quit after i finish treating.

sometimes, life is all about attitude.  try to take a positive attitude while you're at it, you'll be surprised by what a huge difference it can make.  but whatever choice you make, i believe it will be the right choice.

good luck
