Post tx Mosquito Bite

Hi Cyber-people!  Miss you guys.  Haven't been on recently, as I am still struggling with Tendonitis and have gotten swamped with catching up on 6 months worth of work.  Not sure I know how to word this question so here goes.....

For those of you finished with tx, did you notice you were less prone to bug bites while on tx meds??  I have always been the one who gets bit by fleas or stung by mosquitoes, when they are around.  Well, it did not happen at all while I was on the meds (I finished in March).  Now, at almost 2 months post, something bit/stung me.  So I just wondered if the meds actually made our blood repulsive to them.

I know, weird, obscure question but my time here in the forum has taught me that many times others have the same experience but not an opportunity to share until someone else brings it up.  Many thanks.  I will be offline until later tonight.  Bee :0)

Hey FLY -- Hahahaha!! Whose side are you on?  I love that I should be able to sting back :o)  Woke up this morning, checked the leg.  ITCHY splotches around my calf, so it looks like a lone mosquito flew up my jeans and attacked my calve (sp?).  Nothing seems to be bothering my cat, so I doubt it was a flea.

FRIJOLE -- Yup.  I am like your hubby.  Put me in a room with 5 other people and I will be the one fleas or mosquitoes pick on.

INDY -- Awesome to hear you are still UND!!  During most of tx, I did not lose any hair other than normal shedding.  Post tx, however, it has fallen out noticeably at my hairline and throughout.  I feel like I have lost 25% - 40% of my hair and still have a lot of shedding each day.  Oddly, my eyebrows have filled in with a vengence.

BOCEPREVIR GAL -- Yoga might help but check with your doc.  I have some pains where my only option is to rest so the inflammation will calm down, but others where the best thing is lifting light weights.  The Tendonitis I have suffered with this year is (I just discovered) my ergonomics issues, which I hope I finally have fixed.

SANDY -- Hi!  Wishing you all the best!  I am UND right now and will have my 6 months post tx labs in September.  Doc feels confident I will achieve SVR :0)  Sorry to hear you you have been so sick.  Totally understand what you mean.  The post tx energy still ebbs and flows, so we have to pace ourselves.

WORKING DOG -- Hey Billy!  I am not drinking nearly enough water these days and was just thinking I need get back on track.  And yeah, this pollen season is one of the worst in years, so I have been more sneezy and itchy eyed too.

LIBZO2 -- O thanks for the tips!  I ran out of Gold Bond Medicated Lotion, which helped me so much during tx, so I hope to run out to get some today.  Took a Benadryl last night but no luck.  I will have a look at those oils too.  Thanks!

JASMINE -- Tx repelled you - Hahahaha!!!  I hear ya.  I always forget about LiveStrong, so thanks for the tip.  They do have good articles.

Whew!  Thanks everyone!!!  Your input is helpful to me.
Bee :0)

Can't type yet - the 'hyaluronic acid serum' (step 1 after washing with gentle cleanser non-soap like 'Nat. Beauty Cleansing Bar' by Nat. Organics, Inc.) and then the 'grapeseed' oil is for the day.  I got these goodies from "Swanson health products" on line.  Every thing is under 5 bucks.  That's a deal. I am not a dealer - just pleased to have found this help.

Hi bee!  I never got bit during tx.  Tx repelled me so wouldn't be surprised if it did the bugs too.  Some of tx was during the winter months though and I did not go out as much.  Post tx, I have been bitten quite a few times now.

Can't vouch for this personally but live strong often has good advice so may help.  Maybe your liver is still healing.  Hope you feel better.  http://www.livestrong.com/article/112664-benefits-castor-oil-packs/

Hi there, Congratulations on finishing TX.  That feels good to say.  Even better than starting!  I notice after EOT that I caught anything on the pike, staph infec, cold, weird rashes, infected cuticles, stiffness, joint tenderness.  Staying warm with heating pads helped.  Mild yoga and very warm baths were wonderful.  My skin aged tremendously and everything I bought only made my skin more irritated.  I ran across a line of simple oils that have done a remarkable job on taking away 10 years of wrinkles in three to four days with 'rose hip seed' oil (at night because it is so full of vit A - best not to wear in the sun) while using 'grapeseed' oil over 'hyaluronic acid serum'.  These are all natural products which are remarkably cheap.  The brand name stuff did horrible things to my super-sensitive skin.  My daughter was very impressed, as I was and it was right there availble the whole time.  The ugly staph infec. on my cheek led me to this easy simple solution.  Yeay.

sorry to run on but you might love it.  = : )

Hey Bee, you should be able to sting back and give a dose of their own medicine, haha.  Actually, mosquitoes doesn't sting, the pierce and suck with their mouthparts, and only the female bites.  You gals always causing trouble :-)

Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide which we exhale, warm body temperature, lactic acid, movement, etc.  Although its might be possible someone might be less attractive while on tx, I doubt it would make much difference.  If so, if someone consumed a lot of alcohol, I'd expect less biting in that case also.  I live in Florida with lots of mosquitoes buzzing and do get bitten when I take out the dogs at night.  Interesting question, but I doubt it makes any difference in insects wanting to feed on your blood.  It certainly won't matter to a bee or wasp when they sting you.

Bee!  Glad to hear you are finished and recovering.  Haven't had a bug bite issue and I live in South Florida where they are prevalent.  I will have my 6 month SVR test in a few weeks, but feel confident because I was UND at 12 weeks post tx.  But a warning to all of you as you finish tx.  I jumped full force back into my life post tx as I was feeling good.  But my body really wasn't ready and as a result I spent the last two months pretty sick.  First with flu, then the worst sinus infection ever, then eye infection, yeast, stomach flu for 7 days and now Cdiff.  I am sick of being sick.. but glad to be presumably cured of this disease!

Take care and I expect to see your SVR post shortly!

Hi beeblessed~  I would think the Boceprevir would be a real bug repellent, as even something like eating raw garlic works (you could try that now)
Hey, sorry to hear about your tendonitis...I am having something similar happening, my joints and tendons feel loose, and just pop out sometimes...
I'm not sure if I should rest them, or continue with gentle exercise~

Hiya Bee-long time no see. I'm still UND and back teaching. It was winter when I treated (completed 4/6/12) so no bugs and I was too anemic to go out much. I would think our blood on tx would be toxic considering the med combinations we have to tx with. I am thankful for these toxins b/c I will be well and have better quality of life. Are you losing hair? Mine has been coming out for 2 months w/no end in sight, except going bald. I've lost 70%-no wigs for me, but I had so much hair to begin with it's not too awful. How do you feel? Energy? Stamina? I am glad for your encouraging posts here since we almost treated simultaneously and I hope that you will achieve SVR. I lurk here most of the time. Take care and God bless-ali

Don't know the answer to that question,  Bee.  Usually if there is someone else around (like my hubby) the mosquitos don't bother me.  Not too sweet, I guess.

Sorry you are still having to deal with the tendonitis.  I hope you are getting over the ribavirin by now.
