Treatment & being overweight

Hi, does anyone know what percentage of clearing hep c I have since i'm overweight. I know that there is more to treatment working than the weight, but i'm just wondering how big a part weight plays in getting SRV. Thanks

Greetings and welcome :)

It would help to know your genotype and the stage of fibrosis you are since there are different treatment protocols.

I remember reading hotly disputed posts about BMI &/or obesity way back when Pegylated Interferon (an injectable called "Peg") and Ribavirin (oral tablet called "Riba") where the only meds available to treat the virus regardless of genotype. However I have not seen weight in and of itself mention as a predictor for SVR in quite some time.

Hopefully others will add to this meanwhile here are a few recent links that mention predictors for SVR

I am overweight by about 20pounds.  I've dropped 37 pounds in the last year in prep for this  treatment.  My BMI is 27.  I am also close to 6 feet tall (female).  I just finished my Sovaldi/RIBA/Pegasys treatment tonight and was undetected at week 4.  Hopefully I will stay that way!

It seems like I read that a high BMI may be a factor, but I'm sure someone with better knowledge will answer.

my MD told me  my weight was likely a factor in treatment not working my last treatment  in 2012 (with Victrelis/Ribavirin and Interferon).  My BMI was 33 then.

BMI is body mass indicator.  A basic number calculation can be found via Google or from your MD.

Regardless, this is different meds and I'm not a doctor!  I would definitely not let weight keep you from treating if your doctor feels it's time to treat!  Talk to him/her about it.  :)

Wishing you (and all of us) success!
