James 10500 exactly right. One Pat of butter, helps Metabolize the meds.
I have the actual research SOMEwhere. LOL.
As far as I'm concerned, I will deal with weight loss when I'm able to start working out again....for now I am committed to Whatever I need to do to succeed and survive this treatment....After 1 month...from 200million virus to none detectable...been on plain interferon in 1990, Peg/ribo in 03 and now this. Stage 3 fibrosis genotype 1A...I have surrendered to treatment and am succeeding! Please keep your eye on the prize!!!!! Whatever it takes!!!
it is rare to gain wait. i noticed less muscle and a few pounds by the end but few gain much as the appetite is generally not great so we eat only when hungry. good to graze. an empty tummy causes more discomfort in my experience. 20 gms fat once a day was not a big deal. guess it could all up if you need riba 2x but i believe 1.5 tablespoons of olive oil will cover that. cut up avocado and make nice dressing and u are set. best luck, babs
Not sure if a lot of people gain weight. Lots of people find it tough to eat, loss of appetite. My nurse told me I was one of the few people she had seen gain weight.
just out of curiosity, is there a lot of weight gain with this tx considering all the fat one should start ingesting? I'm very close to starting the triple threat and a bit concerned about gaining weight I don't need to gain, ya know what I mean?
I've seen and read many recommendations for eating Riba with a high fat meal, but I don't ever recall seeing a specific amount suggested as has been done with Incivek. After eating and shopping for low fat foods for so long prior to trt, it does take a while to do the opposite. I'm a little disappointed when i see a low fat content sometimes. Finding anything but low or no fat yogurt can be a challenge.
Thanks for the link! I think (translated into reg. English) it means that a high fat meal w/riba translates into 1.5 x more exposure to the efficacy of the drug. Does this mean 20 gr. tho? I was thinking Crunchy granola bar, english muffin and butter, full fat yogurt, PB/J on crackers, etc. This is what you stated earlier, and I appreciate the snack list.
the ribavirin labeling says to take with a high fat meal but gives no details. Most people take with some fatty foods, but not anything like the dosing requirement for maximum absorption for Incevik. My first time around my main fat was a switch to high fat yogurt instead of fat free yogurt. It is really good too.

Hi. I go to Mayo Clinic in Rochester. My Dr is the leading heptologist there. This is my instructions from him: Take riba 12 hrs apart with food (doesn't need to be fat)...this is so doesnt upset your stomach. Take incivek 8 hours apart 3 X per day with 20 grams of fat within 30 minutes of dosing. It is the incivek you need the fat with not the riba.
Thansks-you just named some of my all time fave foods!
some peanut butter or avocado are both healthy or this time of year fresh tomato with basil mozzarella and olive oil. sometimes with out appetite i just made a smoothie using full fat yogurt and milk or ice cream. good luck
Thank you for your response-so much for me to learn.
Thanks. Does it have to be the 20 gr. of fat like Incivik?
You should eat fat when Riba is taken. That means toast with butter on it, eggs cooked in butter. Taking meds with food increases bioavailability the meds stay in the body longer for greater absorption.
