Extremely itchy rectum

About three months ago I started suffering from some very awkward and intense anal itching. I started my int+riba treatment six months ago and was wondering if the medicine can have anything to do with it? For some time I used suppositories called Anusol (I took them every 12 hours) and it worked like a charm. The problem is - despite I used them for 2 full weeks the itching came back as soon as I stopped using them. Sometimes the itching is less intense, but somtimes it actually makes me feel like an animal. It's especially intense in the night. I don't have any external skin-changes around my rectum area (visable piles, weird looking veins etc.) Has anybody on int+riba (only) suffered from this issue?

Oh yes, I definitely had this problem on INF and RIBA only.  I do think the wipes are one of the best answers.  Especially during the middle of the day - then a good dose of Prep H or something.  I have bought the Prep H anti itching cream this round.

I'm sure it wasn't easy to broadcast such an awkward side effect to the whole forum.  Good for you.

You are not alone.  I thought it was attributable to incivek, since my whole body itched but just more intensely "down there".

After finishing Incivek,  whole body itching resolved and "down there" got better but never quite back to normal.  If I could've turned myself inside-out to alleviate the discomfort, I would have.

If the otc remedies don't help, ask Dr. for cortisone based cream or Betamethasone lotion.

If you've had on and off diarrhea from meds, that could promote hemorrhoid development and explain your discomfort too.

Don't let this deter you from the task at hand... finishing tx.

Try counting to 10 before taking matters into your own hands then next week count to 15 and keep increasing the time before you act on the symptom.  Before you know it it'll resolve.  Scratching is a short term relief but only makes it worse.

I do the same as screaming48, almost. I cleanse with unscented aloe baby wipes. Then I insert a Prep H supp. Then I apply Prep. H hemorrhoid cream. And finally I apply some prescription 3% Xylocaine with 0.5% hydrocortisone. That latter cream was originally for the "shards of glass" I felt like I was passing but the suppossitories turned out to work better for the shards of glass. But I found a use for the Xylocaine cream. The Xylocaine cream numbs the reactal area and that means it also stops the itching and irritation.

The rectal problems are truly a pain in the butt and very disconcerting. I hope you can find something that helps relieve your discomfort.

that is one of the side effects I am ready to get rid of. What I do is after a bm I cleanse with aloe wipes, use prep h suppositories and prep h cream on outside. Also use tucks medicated pads. I feel for you it is miserable.

This is a know side effect, and some have this side effect more than others.  Ask your doctor for an Rx Kim protofoam or proctocreme.  It may help.
