UND at 2 week. Must continue for 16 weeks/ TAILORED THERAPY....

Hi
!
So I lucked out and honestly this interferon isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I am wondering if during treatment when we are undetected  (minus 15) if we can still pass of the "virus" to someone else by all the usual ways....(clippers, blood to blood  etc....)???????

I also wanted to encourage anyone with fear of taking the meds, because of all the horror stories we hear, to just be patient as the first week is the tough one (i had chills etc... and all classic symptoms but ALSO insomnia!!!!! Yikes!) and the next few weeks are tough but your body will get used to it.

I just did 5th shot last night and true to their word my body is used to the stuff and symptoms are much less severe and a pain reliever helps a great deal (of course you can NOT exagerate with these....). I will continue for total of 16 weeks and in October will know if this is gone for good. Pray for me as I will do the same for you all and HAVE FAITH!!!!!!!!!!!!
XOXOXO

Hi,

Well I am genotype 1b and have never been treated before. I couldn't take the Boce trial so my doctor mentioned this Tailored Therapy thing which involves patients never treated before and they give PegIntron alfa-2b (80) and Rebetol(5xday of 200 each) according to your weight and check your "quantativo/qualitivo" right before the third shot (exactly 2 weeks after I was on both meds) and another one right before the fith shot. Depending on when you are cleared they times it by 8 and that's how many weeks you need to continue treatment. I cleared on the 2nd week so just need to take this stuff for 16 weeks and after six months off meds get checked again to see if SVR......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never took any of the other stuff you mentioned or take rib alone, beforehand. There is a post someone answered on one of my posts about this and there is a link about this Tailored Therapy stuff. I know it goes against everything they just discussed at the hep convention and that 16 weeks may not be enough but my doc says i am young, healthy woman and that we have better chances and that she cured 25 patients already like this. A 64 year old man couldn't clear and they took him off..........

I hope this answers your questions and forgive me if I couldn't be of more help. My Italian isn't that great and am am new to all this treatment stuff.....

Take Care,
N

ha ha crazy is the word i think

but its fantastic you are clear at two weeks

if you are 1a or 1b and get svr after 16 weeks on soc i think it might be a first , i dont know i have only heard of 2's and 3's achieving this

Would you share what type of tailoring your doctor is doing? For instance, are your peg and riba dosages higher?  Did you pretreat with or currently taking Alinia?  Did you start ribavirin prior to taking interferon?
Exactly what is different?

Ah the Boce - what a wonderful wonderful drug this is truly turning out to be.  Congrats.  That really is fantastic news this drug is changing the whole landscape of hepc treatment.  I wish I could have had it when I treated but am SO glad for everyone out there who has the chance now.

Hi,
Well I am the worst one which is 1a or b (i can't find my file...) but was always low on viral load(i have this for 15 years and used to drink on top but was always around 150,00 to recently 200,000 (2,345)...something like that. I also had hep b before but my body cleared it.....!!!!!! I had the "qualitivo/quantativo) done at one of the best hospitals here and have a wonderful reasearcher/dr who has been successful in clearing several patients with Boceteleprevir and the tailored therapy....This is a trial I was lucky to get on. I didn't understand your med lingo about the other question on meds I am taking 80 interferon and 5 a day Rebetol. Afetr 2 weeks I was under <15....
Limite sensibilità:
15IU/ml
Range dinamico:
15-6,9 x 10^7 IU/ml
(sorry it's all in Italian but I am sure you can figure it out....)

What do you think???? I should stop in April and know in October if I am SVR.........

Thanks!!!!!
X

P.S. I am a very strong person and used to do crazy things like driving while o'ding so I think this is why my body is kicking hep c's a$$.....who knows.....?

Yes - if you are not truly UND you could so it is definitely better safe than sorry.  UND is not SVR. How sensitive was the testing that was used on the PCR?

What geno are you? I'm curious if you are on a PI in addition to the INF that you cleared so quickly.  What makes your treatment tailored?

I had to treat for 72 weeks................sometimes I wish I could have waited but no luck there!

I can not answer whether we can or can not pass on the virus while undetected but I would suggest that it is better to be safe than sorry .  Remember it is possible for the virus to appear again at any time during your treatment and you would not know about it until your next PCR test.  So until you re past the 6 months post-tc mark I would suggest that you behave as if you were still contagious
