WBC count too low. Doctor says to stop treatment! It's my choice to make right now...

What do I do? My doctor is on vacation, and the on call doctor says to NOT DO my injection #3 tonight and stop taking Riba. My white blood cell count is 400, or 2.5, not really sure what the difference is, but it is low, and I am at risk for infection, basially have a low immune system. Anyway, I have my injection and Riba on hand, and I can either take it through the weekend, or stopp all TX and go to see my specialist on Tuesday and see if she will start me back up again. I feel great, I am so mad, and confused. Should I go against doctors orders and continue TX? What would my doctor do? I am on day 14, this is not fair. Please someone post something tonight so I can make my final decision. I'm so torn and indecisive.

Hello! Thank you for your rapid response, I need you guys. Yes, I just started TX, I am on day 14 taking Ribavirin and Interfuron. Tonight would have been my 3rd injection. I am supposed to start Boceprevir (AKA Victrelis) on week 5. The side effect of Beceprevir is anemia and low WBC count, so if I am already having this problem, I may not be able to continue, or maybe I can take neopogen to bring up my count. I am not sure of my other numbers. My viral load was 1/2 million when I started. I am only 29 years old, and was diagnosed 8 years ago. I do not drink or use drugs. My WBC count was 400, and the doctor told me anything under 500 was dangerous. Another reading was 2.5, not sure if that is for neutrophils, I wish I had more information than that.

Why would it be a tough decision to get the Neupogen ? You need it to continue. Get the Neupogen and continue !

Ok, it is Friday nighat at 1AM. Since my doctor is out of town until Tuesday, should I do injection #3 tonight, right now? and continue taking Ribavirn all weekend? Or should I stop all meds for 3 days and continue when my doctor gets back? My gut says to take my dose and inject. But then again, I am nervous. I also have latent TB, a postitive test, if my immune system is down, I am at rist to get active tubeerculosis? I am so indecisive right now. I just wanna inject, and go to bed, I just want to reach SVR. Tell me your thoughts if you have a moment. Thank you!

I think in that case relax now. Take the on call doc's advice and just make sure you get to see the specialist without any unnecessary delay. I would be pushy and try to get ot see the doc as early as possible to keep your options open. Don't feel bad about stopping. That won't help :)

Ok. I'm sorry to go on and on, it's hard to relax. By any chance, have you heard of people missing 3 days or more of all meds, and still reaching SVR?

James I am not sure that the neupogen works immediately, she has tanked really quickly, and she has latent TB. I would defer to doctors advice in that case.
