What does having High Platelets mean?

Hi everyone,
Since I've started getting Liver panels in 2005 when I discovered I had HepC, I've had high platelets. They were anywere from 375 - 453. What does that mean?
Thanks
Sharon

Liver damage is usually indicated by low platelets, not high platelets.  It's probably not from the hepatitis and you may want to get it checked out by a hematologist.

there is a bone marrow disorder (which i have) called Polycythemia or PV that causes high platelets.   But usually the Hematocrit is also high.  It is a problem with the bone marrow producing too many red blood cells.  it can cause high risk of heart attack and stroke since the blood is so thick from the RBC's.      i finally saw a dr. who sent me to a hemetologist.  the treatment is phlebotomies and medicines to bring counts down.   its worth looking at all your blood counts and discussing it with your dr.

According to my lab reports "normal" range is 150 -450, being a tiny bit over 450 I wouldn't consider it "high" in the sense that there is something to worry about. What did the doc say about it?
