I have HCV and have been married and intimate without protection for 25yrs.  My wife tested negative a year ago.

I agree that there is more danger in losing a good friend than transmitting HCV.

-- What kind of risk am I looking at?

Based on experience, you're taking a big risk when a friendship with a female friend turns sexual. But, as Cuteus points out, in her case none of that has to do with Hep C. LOL.

20 years with my wife .... no 'protection'.

1 year knowing I have HCV

No transmission to her.

I have a theory, that because root cause of infection can be difficult to pinpoint, some doctors will go through their 'run down' list and when every answer is "no" except for '...have you had more than one sexual partner?'  They jump on this as the explaination for transmission.

In my own (you're-not-a-doctor-stupid) opinion its a direct blood to blood transfer.  So, yeah, it could be Xfered via sex.... but I don't want to think .... about ....... both having....I'm done now.

even with a viral load the risk is very small for sexual transmission. no viral load=no risk
