Worried and Wondering

I have limited knowledge of how Hepatitis C spreads so this may be a moot point.  I see restaurant employees clearing tables and picking up 4 or 5 glasses by spreading their hand out and putting their fingers in the glasses to maximize the amount they can clear with one hand.  Again, the employees are clearing not serving.  When a customer with Hepatitis uses their drink glass and the bus staff has a cut on their finger are they at risk of contracting it?  I try to discourage the practice when I see it out in restaurants but maybe I am just ignorant and stop.  Any comments? Thanks  Pye

Hep A is spread through dirty hands in restaurants.

Hep C is different. Hep C is transmitted through Blood to Blood. (needles etc)

Why not get a vaccination shot for Hep A?
Or a vaccination for Hep B which is transmitted through sexual contact.

I don't take vaccines but they are out there for you if you are concerned. I avoid restaurants to lower my risk of Hep A. My cooking is way better and quicker than going to a restaurant anyway.

That kind of habit of putting your finger in a glass and used by a customer  has other issues besides Hepatitis C....is transmitted by blood.  And even if you drank the blood....it would have to come in contact with an open wound of some sorts.   That's not very common.  I would be concerned about bacteria, hepatitis B and a laundry list of other things that others can  get due to putting their fingers in someone's used glasses.  But the employees are clearing not serving and may not even think it's a problem.   Seems you have to catch something before you take it serious.   I would have rubber gloves on
.....but you would too.

Best to you

Hello,   HCV is only spread through blood.  The bus person would have to be picking up glasses with blood on them and he would have to have an open cut.
