anal burning

First post, hello all.
So I started Incivek/ribavirin/Pegasys for HCV type 1A almost 48 hours ago, this is the first attempt at treatment.  I already have pretty bad anal burning and itching, it's continuous and for real.  I'm pretty sure it's the Incivek, I have never before  in my life had this.  It is not intolerable, but at the rate it is progressing I can imagine it getting to be pretty awful in a few days...yikes!
I would be grateful for any advice on specific creams/ointments or other topical treatments that could help out with this.  I'll try pretty much anything.
Thanks in advance!
(BTW, the Pegasys was not bad this first time.  A few hours of headache and fatigue starting about 12 hours after the injection).

I didn't get hemoroids, and all my problems were external, having pre-existing problems I have no expirience with but it sounds like something you should make your doctor aware of because as I said it is a very common side effect.

so, the incivek actually gave you hemoroids without diarrea or constipation??  internal or external and was there any bleeding involved?  i just had an episode of heavy bleeding from internal hemoroids a few days ago, 2nd time it happened now...  last time was over a year ago, i have had 2 colonoscopies over the last 5 years and its just hemoroids but those 2 times the bleeding was really really bad...  im worried if this is going to make this bleeding even worse...

Yes it is the incivek, it's a very common side effect and doesn't always involve diarrea, in my expirience it only lasted the first 2 weeks and a I stayed on top of it and keep it managable, then my body just seemed to adjust and the problem is over.

Welcome to the forum and to my world.  My first post also dealt with anal issues.  I am now is week 7 and although it is somewhat better, it was pure torture for the first couple of weeks.  I have everything:
baneol cream
steriod suppository that doc prescribed
tucks
prep H
some products my nurse friend gave me that are used in the hospital
huggies wipes
a&d ointment
Nupracainal

Some work at times and others at different times.  I can no longer use tucks, the burning is too bad.  A&D ointment works well to keep things moist.  Huggies are a must most of the time.  I just discovered the nupracainal ointment and it is working well.  I may be spelling it wrong, but I left the tube at my office today.

I have also tried to find if food triggers any of the diarrhea that I have.  I now avoid coffee, spicey foods, tomatoes.  I eat more bananas, rice and I take metamusil everyday per doc's suggestion.

While nothing totally gets rid of the pain, all of these things do help.  I truly feel your pain.  There were some days I got lightheaded when trying to stand up from the toilet.  All I can say is that I think when we are done with the incivek, this will go away.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum.I "feel your PAIN".  LOL
I have been using Prep H.  My doctor gave me a RX for a cream with steroid.  Didn't work.    Good luck.

My pharmacist recommended Tucks.  These are pads used for hemorrhoids that contain witch hazel.  They have been working for me.  When it gets real bad, I just leave one in place for a while.  Good luck.

You might also ask you doctor for Rx lidocaine ointment.

Thanks, all.  Meanwhile I've been googling, here are the candidates:

1 - Boudreaux’s Butt Paste
2 - ProctoFoam (and Proctofoam HC, which has hydrocortisone)
3 - Annusol
4 - PrepH
5 - Analpram, Rectocort-HC    (Pramoxine = local anesthetic, plus hydrocortison)

If any body has an further suggestions, or guidance in choosing among the above, please advise.

Also, it looks like it is probably worthwhile to be obsessive about anal cleaning after bowel movements.

Thanks!  And thanks for the welcome!

"There were anorectal events in 29% of subjects treated with Incivek™ combination treatment (compared to 7% being treated with just peginterferon alfa and ribavirin). The majority of these anorectal events included hemorrhoids, anorectal discomfort, anal pruritus and rectal burning which were mild to moderate in severity. Less than 1% of these events led to treatment discontinuation and all resolved during or after Incivek™ dosing.

Incivek™ treatment could cause decreases in white blood cell count as well as platelet counts, which is also the case with peginterferon alfa treatment.

Incivek™ treatment could increase bilirubin and uric acid levels."
