doctor doesn't know!?

hello again all...
well, a few weeks ago my boyfriends (jareds) doctor told him he has hep c. didn't dicsuss his options for treatment, or order any further tests. we have been trying to get ahold of this doctor to find out what we should be doing next (referrals, blood work, biopsy etc) for two weeks. finally, today, the doctors nurse calls jared and says the doc won't be in for a week because he's on vacation. so jared asks the nurse "do i for sure have hep c? or did i just test positive for antibodys?" the nurse tells him that they don't know. i'm not sure what exactly to think of this doctor. as i said in a previous post, they've known for a year that something was wrong, but didnt say anything until recently.
anyway, jared has decided not to wait for this doctor to get back from his vacation to find out whats going on. his sister suggested a doctor that she knows. he's not a hepatologist or anything, but at least we can finally find out if he truly has hep c or not and get a referral if needed. he'll be making an appointment tomorrow and i'll post again when we learn something.
best wishes to you all!!

according to our insurance, we need a referral in order to see any kind of specialist. otherwise i'd be perfectly happy skipping the whole general practitioner business. unfortunatly we're stuck taking "the scenic route". grrr. thanks for your response!:)

You should learn from your mistakes. Going to your sister's doc can end you up with another numbskull. Find yourself a hepatologist or at least a GI with a Hep C practice.
