you brought to mind, the east coast-west coast rap thing they do...made me chuckle
That is interesting about the West Coast, I live on the East Coast. I never thought about it.
Quest Diagnostics has just announced a public health initiative with the CDC, to better diagnose and treat hepatitis C. I bet, over time, we will get some good surveillance of where heppers live. Surveillance has always been very difficult for many reasons. The first being the difficulty in diagnosing hep C in its acute stage. The second being that hep C is often not a reportable disease depending where one lives. What we did find out was interesting. In States like Kentucky and New Mexico, the rates of hep C were twice the average of 1.8% of the population. That is why Hep C Association focused much of our educational efforts in the States with a high incidence of the virus. It is also why New Mexico employed the ECHO system to use computers to connect doctors to better treat patients because there were so many spread across a large State with no specialists. Surveillance is an interesting area of concern. I would have guessed that most patients lived in big cities like NYC or LA. Just not true.......Great topic Aprildone.
we are mobile indeed. I had traveled 10 countries and 35 states before age 30. I, for the present time, can attribute mine to a san diego tattoo parlor. unless, there are future v.a. findings of boot camp air vaccs, which occurred before my san diego travels.
Hi!
Well mom posted geographic locations & it does seem a bit weighted to the west. I grew up in Philadelphia, lived in Colorado1972-76 ( transfusion there in 1976( probable culprit & live in Florida now, hopefully curing, but I was just pondering your observation & I definitely think many of us who are mid baby boomers ( hippie gen) moved towards California in mass migration. So you really may have a point! Interesting!
63 - and very much tickin'
No Lynn, you are a nerd, because you are a nerd :-) (SDAMOT) lol xo

Live Long and Prosper
Where do you find this stuff lol
Impressed
I brought mine to Washington state just to add to their stats but it was aquired elsewhere
According to Lab Corp the States with the highest incidence of hep C are: Washington, Oregon, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, New Hampshire, and Puerto Rico.
While I currently live on the west coast I was raised on the east coast and I believe I got hep c while in the Army stationed in West Germany from 1977 to 1980 probable got hep C in 1978.
We do have a very mobile society
Luckily for us, that means there were already organizations with infrastructure to conduct outreach and steer people towards treatment
As has been expressed elsewhere. the real deluge of patients will come from those places where people are not even aware they have the virus
I was also noticing the ages of people in this support group with 60 being the most common from just my back of the envelope tally
For those who did not list their age, come on. It's Really helpful to others!
