Searing hot pain (post tx?)

Okay, I am desperate. I have never in my life experienced this sort of pain. It started weeks ago, and continues to become worse. Searing hot pain in wrist through the thumb. I feel like someone has put a hot iron on my wrist. Is this post tx sx???
Its almost unbearable hot pain, and takes my breath away. I have tried everything,....Cosimin DS for weeks now, hot/cold packs, but nothing works. I have no ins. now b/c of tx.
I have gone to every web site, but they dont descibe the kind of pain Im experiencing. I feel like Im being burned from the wrist down. Very strange symptom, but oh sooo painful. I cannot avoid using my thmb or wrist, but have tried for weeks now.
Please does ANYONE know what this could be?????????

I started having carpal and tarcel tunnel-like pain at three months after treatment.  I asked the PA running the trial about it and she sidestepped the question and said nothing was wrong.  I got the feeling it was a rehearsed response.

I did a 10 day master cleanse and this cleared up, but I'm still developing new problems at six months after treatment.  I can't find any honest research from the medical community about this.

Your symptoms sound neurological - not necessarily related to hcv in any way.  I'd see a neurologist.

NS - I had the EXACT same thing happen post tx. I am no expert, but I think it very well could be Post tx related.

I had CT on & off through the years. But nothing prepared me for the post tx pain from this type of Carpel Tunnel. Yes, it felt as if my hands were being put directly into a fire, searing hot, with no relief. It was very difficult to endure. I feel for you and I am sorry that you are going through this horrific ordeal. I would recommend seeing a good neurologist and getting a thorough exam.

My Neuro diagnosed me with Severe carpal tunnel, triggered by the Peg. The machine she used for diagnosis measures the nerve damage and mine was off the charts. She prescibed high doses of Neurontin ( epilepsy meds ) as well as Oxycotin ( pain meds) I also used presciption Novacaine patches that I applied 2 X per day, directly onto the nerve damage ( inside the wrist ) By the way........The Peg insert does say that CT can be triggered from tx, but it's rare.

The good news is about 6 months post tx, I began to wean off of the meds. I slowly got back to normal. I still have occasionl pain in my wrists and use the splints, but only occasionally. I hope you get some answers soon. Merry Christmas, Sue

SEriously it doesn't sound like it has anything to do with treatment to me (post tx) and somehow you have to get to a doctor.  You could have hurt your wrist even while you were sleeping or something.......it sounds horrible but as far as I've ever read doesn't sound like a post treatment side effect to me at all.  More like a wrist or nerve injury.

Could be carpal tunnel but you should get it looked at. If you don't have insurance why don't you stop into your local emergency room and have them take a look. As to tx causing it, anything is possible, but equally likely it's either coincidental or the interferon was masking the pain due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Hopefully, it will be a transitional thing. Does it feel better if you rest it -- i.e. like not typing, etc, or at least using one hand?

Be well,

-- Jim

I'm about a month and a half away from when I was pulled from tx for being a nonresponder and I've not experienced anything like you are explaining.

I've also experienced early carpal tunnel, a benefit of being in computer field I guess, and for me it has been more a numbing of the hand, not the fiery symptoms you are experiencing.

I'd recommend seeing a doc to find out what's going on with you.

Off and on, through most of treatment, I have had a burning feeling mainly in my fingertips but sometimes as far back as the wrist, in the toes too. Doesn't last that long though.

At first it was quite a shock, like you had put your fingers into a fire, it made me pull my hand away like a crazy person. I have put it down to the interferon.

Peripheral neuropathy would be my guess, too.  It often burns.  I hear it's not uncommon with treatment.  I hope it gets better.

Peripheral neuropathy seems to occur with interferon treatment, albeit rarely.

I had a hot, iron hot, burning on my feet a few months ago. I put ice packs on them and it went away fairly fast, but it was scary to have. It also felt like stabbing on the bottoms of my feet. Haven't had it since...Hope you are okay.

I'd say it sounds like neuropathy to me. I get sharp breathtaking pains that sound like what you describe in my foot due to neuropathy caused by a broken disc/nerve injury. My father complains of similar pains in his thumb when his gout acts up, you really need to see a doctor to determine what is going on.

Hang in there, sorry to hear you are dealing with this.

Peripheral Neuropathy can be caused by Interferon therapy, and there have been several people posting on this forum in the past few years who have experienced this disorder after finishing tx. It is a known side effect of interferon.
