Hey there Jules, so sorry for your troubles. It does improve. I think that in a few months he should be much improved. Right now it is been about 4 months. Since they say the riba stays in your system 6 months, I would look for him to be much improved by the 6 to 8 month mark and even more so by the time he has hit a year.
The tx makes people photo sensitive so best if he stays out of the sun as much as he can.
My skin looked pretty bad after tx. Now a year and a half later my skin is improving quite a bit.
I hope the best for you and hubby
D
I just remembered that for the first year after I finished tx my skin was so sensitive I could not shave my legs. The reaction was not pretty even if I used a brand new razor. I know TMI but trying to help :) Since the tx affects our skin, mouth, hair it makes sense to me that it takes time for that to improve as well.
I was thinking that if you could, it might be a good idea for your husband to get his eyes checked, just to be on the safe side. Right now I can't think of the right type of eye doctor, not an optometrist...can I blame brain fog :)
ARGH! Sorry
Burning without getting a tan takes a bit to go away. This was very frustration for me. I always tanned in the summer and after treatment all I did was burned. I have started to tan now after about 9 months. A year is a realistic recovery time for the 60s crowd.

Hmmm, very interesting post: I was just noticing this morning, on my
"decollete" (lower neck, upper-chest area)..that where my dog scratched me weeks ago, I still see little red bumps which I can pick off :(
All in all, my skin has more weirdness then it ever did, but some of it may be the aging process also, of course :( :(
I am noticing that my skin is starting to tan now, at around 1 yr post Tx~
I have been on Pegitron, Ribavirin, & Victrellis for treatment of HCV Genotype 1. I have been feeling very tired, have had a rash (red bumps), & it has made me a little forgetful. i have also experienced some hair loss, Having said that, I have good days and bad days and have learned to take advantage of the good ones. I have also experienced a change in taste and have learned just to eat what tastes good to me. I am wondering how long it may take for these things to go away once I stop taking the treatment which should be in 6 weeks if I stay undetectable and don't see any reason why I shouldn't stay ud.
To all of you who are considering this treatment I would like to tell you it is not that bad but it is no cake walk either. Please let me know if anybody can give me more info.
I have also experienced skin probs as my skin looks like an alligators and also developed a rash which was kinda itchy.
I finished treatment a year ago wit telaprevir and my skin is awful. The smallest bump or bug bite scabs over and takes weeks to heal. Granted I pick at it and that makes it worse, but still....
Anybody hv probs with a sore back while on Peg, Rib, and Vic. I am also exp hairloss and hope it comes back. They do use Vic to treat some forms of Melanoma's so I think this is a kind of chemo. Any opinions r welcome.
Yer, my pain would rove around, while I was on Victrelis, but my hair didn't start really shedding until a few weeks after my 28 week Treatment ended, strangely, but thet stopped at around 10 weeks post treatment. Hair loss is a common sided effect, as well as skin rash.
My skin still seems more prone to problems, I cant remember my dog scratching my chest, but it has red blotches, small, but they can bleed. I am avoiding the sun on that area.
Thanx once again folks suppose that we just need to persevere, Battway the interferon is a type of chemo my hubby had alot of hairloss he too suffered with a bad back and pains in his arms are still waking him up but hopefully once the riba is out of system things will improve. Many thanx again guys love Jules x
He may be prone to more skin infections given that he just finished triple tx. I would definitely encourage him to clean the scratches and keep a watch on them for signs of infection. As for the reactive skin/dry skin issues, hopefully those will resolve with time. I would encourage him to moisturize his skin several times a day, use sunscreen with a good block, and drink lots of water. If the problems continue, I would probably see a dermatologist just to see what else can be done.
