The doctor told me that they had only done one of the tests..can't remember if it was ast or alt. Whichever it was, it was normal. I am being tested again in 2 months so I shall see if the count is any better. Hopefully it will be.
If your doctor has an Ast level, he will also have alt, which is a more important indicator of liver function than Ast.
Thank you for your reply. I don't have the reading for the AST level but I was told it was normal. No risk factor for hepatitis so have ruled that out.
Spoke to doctor again today who reassured me it is nothing to worry about and that it is a vitamin D deficiency...was told that it can take months for the body to absorb Vitamin d tablets I am taking so hence why the Alkaline Phosphate count might not have gone down that much. I'm hoping she is right so that I can stop worrying :o)
What is your ast/alt level? I believe the upper limit of normal for alk phos is 150. So your level is not that high.
Do you have a risk factor for hepatitis? Blood transfusion, organ transplant or Idu?
