new drugs

has anyone started the new treatment with telaprevir?  See my hepatologist in July and he is recomending
telaprevir over boceprevir.  Afraid of the rash????????

Hi Linda,

welcome - answers come slow on the weekends on this board.  most answers come on weekdays during work hours

vertex was approved less than 2 weeks ago so the only folks on this board that have reported on the rash were in the trials. you probably read that something like 50 precent of the trial participants experienced the dreaded rash.  early on the trial coordinators did not treat the rash quickly. i spoke with a hepatologist this week and she said they would aggressively treat the rash, first with steroid cream and failing that - prednisone.  now that the docs know the rash is a serious problem, i would hope that patients would not suffer unnecessarily.

Hi Linda  i'm on week 4 of telap trial...have had no rash yet with minimal side effects so far but am starting to feel alot more tired...i did the Telap because 1. it was free 2. you only have to take the Telap for 12 weeks as opposed to Boc for 24 weeks ...
