I've had mild itchy bumps from like day 3. I really believe heat makes it worse n hope to get relief this fall... Good luck Karen :)
Oops, just re-read your post and you said you got the rash on day 6, not week 6. Hmm, could be the riba or the Incivek. It could also be a transient thing that will subside or not get any worse. Only thing to do is to wait it out and keep in close contact with your doctor. If you've developed a real allergy this soon, you may have to shut down. But don't pull the plug until you really know this thing is for real and is getting much worse. Work with your doctor and try your best to work around this issue. Good luck....
Marty you don't mention which drug you're on (besides interferon and ribavirin). I assume you're on Incevik? (formerly known as telaprevir) If so I took what you're taking during the first drug trial offered with all three drugs. I got the nasty rash that Telaprevir is known for starting at about week 5-6. It's not uncommon at all, although most don't get the worst of it.
Problem is that the other two drugs can cause rashes of one sort or another as well. All 3 are known potential skin irritants. Keep an eye on it and if it gets worse or really bad, then statistically the most likely culprit is the Incivek. If it comes down to it , I'd quit the Incivek first and see what happens (with your doctor's affirmation, of course). I quit after week 6 and went on to SVR anyway even after a very trying experience with all sorts of drugs that were necessary to control my out of control rash. Whatever you do, don't let it get to that point! The Incivek has done most of the heavy lifting it's going to do at this point, so don't be terribly concerned about quitting it if you HAVE to. It's still done ya some serious good. Good luck...
no I don't know what it was i was just so upset because another treatment didn't work. I was clear at 4 weeks broke thru at 6. I am now on my 4th day of Victrllis. This is my 4th day and I am sick. i was on the 4 week lead and when i started the Vic it just like intensified all the sides of SOC. I haven't done a tx in 3 years. I really hope this is the one that works.
The rash was never a real problem for me and now at week 10 starting on Thursday it's not much of a problem at all. Some days the itch is worse then other days, some days not at all. I have a cortisone cream that I use at any site that the rash brakes out. It will itch for a few days then dry out. I think the trick may be to catch it early and keep cool. I don't know, just my observation.
got mine just three days in, thats the only se that is not that bad for me. I use boudreaux butt paste you can find it in the baby section. It reminds me of having chiggers which will make you scratch till you bleed so I am putting the boudreaux on it, so far ok
mine got started right away...got worse at 5 weeks...now its a real pain...i have to take 2 benydril every night 2 hours before bed or i can't sleep at all...still its tough..good luck...when i had to cut back on the riba for a week my rash was much better...i thought it was just the incivek but i was wrong..good luck..billy
rocky,
When you say you broke through at wk 6 did they give you the PCR results, the actual viral load count at that wk? Were you UND at wk 4?
Sorry about the rash, it can be a real p-i-s-s-e-r for some.
I was in the study the first time I got the placebo. then I did the rollover and I got the rash by week 3. it would start out as bumps and then turn into a red motteling. I looked like a big walking welt. The virus broke thru at week 6 but they would have pulled me because of the rash. On the study they couldn't give me prednisone. I still have scars on my arms. supposedly it was one of the most severe rashes.
First onset of rash can occur at any time after start of telaprevir but the majority of rash events begin during the first 4 weeks of treatment. Progression of rash severity was reported for less than 10% of the cases, and many rash events resolved during the first 24 weeks of treatment, as demonstrated by the decrease in prevalence after Week 24.
