Yeah, sorry to say but you should not have a glass of wine while treating. Wait for 2011 when hopefully you will be cured. Happy New Year to you!
Most people say don't drink at all. I shouldn't have but did occasionally had a glass of wine or beer. I still stayed UND on all my blood tests. I only did that a few times. I have never been a heavy drinker, but a glass of wine is relaxing at times. You do what you think is right for you. I just finished tx last wk!!!!!!!!!
If you do decide to have some wine, measure out 2 ounces and no more - drink with food - that shouldn't make any difference on as far as chances of SVR. But if might dehydrate you even more and give you a nasty headache. So maybe find something healthier to celebrate with like some real dark chocolate and strawberries, a massage, a warm bath or whatever your favorite healthy food might be. Good to get in the habit of taking care of yourself beyond just the Hep C.
Martinelli's is really good and festive.
Here is a very interesting article on the effect of alcohol on treatment. It sounds like there has been very little scientific evidence on this. Does anyone have a link to a recent study that correlates light alcohol consumption to decreased probability of SVR? Personally, I wouldn't have chanced it on treatment plus alcohol would have made me feel worse but I am curious which studies people have seen that show anything that indicates a light drink could impact SVR.

not worth it,,, have some sparkling pomegranate juice instead, & think good thoughts.
No more alcohol just say no... Ha.... we hate to say that to ourselves.
ummmm, sparkling pomegrante sounds yummy - where can I get that? I'm scared to have a glass of wine and I'm done with tx. Haven't had my SVR test yet.
i was stupid and have 3 alcoholic drinks at my freinds hens night,i tried so hard to get out of goin cos i h8 bvein round drunk peeps when sober but she didnt know i had hepc so i drank a few drinks and i sooo regret it now,my liver area ached bad after i did that.our liver has to be in good condition to process the tx drugs etc cos cirrotic people and fatty liver people tend to not get cured so try and keep ya liver as healthy as possible whilst on tx and well...just in general too.i wish id been on this site when i first stared tx cos i never had a clue what tx was like, all me doc said was it will be hard, tiring,u might get depressed and feel sick and what drugs id be on and what to do with the drugs etc and he did tell me not to drink too but he didnt go right into detail.i was so depressed and i went funny on the tx,i just wasnt meself and i had not much support and i know that i was weak willed and i just should have said no to my freind but she would have been real pee'd off if i never went but if i could rewind time id tell her nope i am not coming and drinking.
It sounds like a fine idea, as long as you use the non-alcoholic wine! Non-alcoholic beer is OK, too. ;-)
My advice is to get some new friends if the activities of your current ones revolve around drinking, unless you are particularly strong-willed and independent. I think it would be bretty hard to stay alcohol-free for most people in social situations where drinking is a significant activity.
My hepatologist who diagnosed my HCV said "NO ALCOHOL, NONE"! He told me that several times even though I am a tee-totaler and don't drink anyway.
Best wishes!
Hey, I am a "bretty" good typist, no? Sorry about typo :)
It's known that alcohol reduces the effectiveness of the interferon. One drink may not be all that much but seems to me why bother doing anything that is KNOWN to reduce effectiveness of treatment drugs. I bought non-alcoholic wines and beers while on treatment and substituted them quietly with nobody being the wiser, poured it into the same wine glasses everyone else was using and carried on. Even if they did know, it wouldn't have bothered me and I didn't have any trouble saying, without explaining why, to the odd person "I'm not drinking at the moment". If pushed, I would have simply said "I'm taking medication that doesn't mix with alcohol." That covers a whole WHACK of medication and it's commonly known that many medications shouldn't be taken with alcohol, so I'd say you can pull this off quite easily.
I did find it easier to just keep it quiet though. People are weird about alcohol consumption and it becomes much more about them than about you. I kept my glass full of non-alcoholic "stuff" and I never got much grief as a result.
I’m going to address this from another angle. I had to sign papers stating that I would not drink alcohol during treatment. I was told that if any alcohol was detected in my blood (and they would randomly check) they would stop treatment. I would be surprised if your Dr. condoned it.
I had two beers a week while I treated for 24 weeks still svr,
