I have gallstones as well - gall sludge I read can accompany HCV. It was discovered when I had liver biopsy a couple of years back. My specialist recommended removing them only if I have trouble - pain, etc. I had a couple of bouts of intense pain, diagnosed with infections a couple of times that cleared by themselves I guess. Had no more problems since I went on a low fat diet.
sounds like gallstones to me. have your doc order a Hida scan. good luck
Not to cloud the issue but here is a link from the expert forum that may be of interest to you but not necessarily relevant to your own diagnosis:

The reason I bring up the occasional confusion about ulcer and gallstone symptoms is that my mom seemed sure her problems were gallstone-related as did her family doctor. The specialist, though, decided it was h.pylori (ulcer-related) and treated her with some antibiotics. In her case, her symptoms disappeared, so she was very lucky.
If you don't get yourself to the doctor I'm going to worry about you until you do. You've been suffering with that pain for awhile now. Gallstones do not go away on their own. Some can be temporarily managed with drugs or by making dietary adjustments, such as reducing fat intake. This treatment has a low, short-term success rate. Symptoms will eventually continue unless the gallbladder is removed.
Today, gallbladder surgery is performed laparoscopically and most patients go home within one day and enjoy a quicker return to normal activities.
See your doctor and at least have an ultrasound done to confirm your previous diagnosis.
The doctor will recommend what the best course of action is for you.
Don't make me worry sf - you know I will. :)

You should review this with your doctor to determine the cause of your pain. As a novice, I am inclined to believe that it is pain that often accompanies inflammation of the liver. While the liver does not have nerves that create the sense of pain, the swelling of the liver places pressure on the inner abdominal lining beneath your rib cage. If it is a dull pain that comes and goes and is in the right rib cage area, this is likely to be the culprit. Hot baths and advil will ease the sensation. Do see your doctor to ward out other underlying issues. I have recently attained an SVR-48 from the Prove 3 telaprevir clinical trial. The pain in my side is all but gone. As my liver continues to heal, the inflammation is subsiding, and so is the right-side pain.
