I’m afraid to take the treatment with Interferon, Ribavirin, etc. so I when on-line and found this product “ITP” for Hepatitis C and increase Platelets, it is all about herbs, this is my first week taking it, does anybody out there is also trying this product or other products that can help with the Hep. Hey glad to hear you came back and got some good advice.  Hopefully your doctor will lead you to the right decision in dealing with your HepC.  You may want to wait on the herbs until you are done with all your tests especially if you're going to have blood tests done.  If those herbs actually make your platelets go up then you really don't need a false reading.  Some ppl go through tx and have hardly any sx's at all.  Maybe you could go through tx and not even break a sweat.  Yeah, you never know.  Check out this young lady she videos herself every week during her tx and I haven't watched the whole video but from what I can tell, she did very well.  check it out and good luck!

Welcome to the discussion group, by the way. You have lots of company here; there are hundreds of folks here that have gone in front of you, and will happily share their collective knowledge and experience with you.

Do go over this thoroughly with the GI doc, and have him/her explain things so you know where you stand, and can make informed decisions.

Most of us request hard copies of labs and procedures, and develop a medical file to help keep track of everything. It helps communicate more effectively here, as well as with other specialists if needed.

Cool profile pic; is that you with the sword :o)?

Since it sounds like your hep c and low platelet diagnosis is recent, it's important to approach all health products, medicinal or herbal, with caution and consult with your doctor before starting any new supplements.   The liver must process everything we consume, and you should NOT assume that just because something is 'natural' or 'herbal' that it is therefore safe.  In cases of liver disease, even something as simple as Iron supplements can be damaging.  If it wasn't recommended by your doctor, you should talk to him about what you're taking.

A platelet count of 32 is significantly low, and it would be very important to determine what might be causing this result.  Though low platelets can be caused by a number of things, with hep c it could indicate significant liver damage.  If you have not yet had a biopsy and/or full examination and work-up by an experienced GI or hepatologist, that would be an important first step before jumping onto supplements or making conclusions about treatment.  What you can do in the meantime to make the best of things is to abstain from all alcohol, eat as healthy as possible, do what you can to keep your liver healthy, and learn about what it means to have hep c.  Welcome to the forum. ~eureka

Hi yoguez,

You’re platelets are significantly reduced if they’re now 32k. While they might be low due to some other reason, having low platelets in the context of HCV isn’t usually a good thing. The spleen tends to hold, or sequester platelets as cirrhosis develops, preventing them from remaining in circulation. This can be substantial enough to prevent therapy with interferon, because it too can reduce platelets itself. In fact, it’s unlikely you’d be allowed to participate in standard therapy right now, if your platelets are indeed 32,000.

I would follow up rather quickly with the GI or hepatologist, and ask them for counsel. I wouldn’t even think about herbals or CAM without first consulting with a qualified physician; if your ‘ITP & Liver Hep. Kit’ passes their muster, then that’s a different story.

Many of us, myself included have done one if not more sessions with interferon/ribavirin, and many of us found it quite tolerable. If it’s available, and recommended, I would give it serious consideration; it beats losing the liver.

Best to you, and let us know how things go,

--Bill

Yes, I have my internist and he refered me to a good gastro doc, which had me done a ultrasound of my liver and I'm waiting for my results to go to the next step, also my gastro doc told me about all the side effects of different Tx, thats why I'm scare to take it, and was thinking on herb supplement, but you are right about ESLD. after I get my results I'm sure my doc will tell me which Tx is better for me and I'll go for it

Have you seen a doctor that knows his way around liver disease; like a gastro doc, internist doc or hepatologist?  It may be a good time to get a comple assessment of your liver and health.

Please find a reputable heptologist who can help you with all of this.  You should have had a liver biopsy - that will help you determine how much liver damage has already progressed in your liver. I had no symptoms and was already stage 3 of 4 (4 being cirrhosis) I had no idea I had the virus and it didn't care it was busy inside destroying me.

PS Most (all?) herbal supplements are nothing but a rip off and wont do a thing to help you and while you are taking them they could make the situation even worse while your liver is degenerating even more.

You do not want to die of end stage liver disease believe me I"ve seen it and it's bad.  Do whatever you have to to be cured of this disease.

How low are your low platelets?  Did the doc give you a number or a copy of a CBC report?

It sounds like you have considerable liver damage if your platelets are low.  I would be very concerned about taking bottles of herbs that have not been proven to help.  Remember almost everything that goes into your body ends up going thru your liver.

Hi Fretboard,

I just checked what ESLD stands for and now I'm worried. I will look for more information on different txs, and ask my doc too. Thanks

I don't know how bad your HepC is, but unfortunately you don't either.  The bottom line is it could be very bad and you could be in a time frame that allows you a very small window in which to try tx.  If you do nothing but take herbs you could face ESLD.  I'm not sayinig this for my health, I'm saying it for yours.  Some herbs are used as seasoning but they do not cure HepC.  good luck

While herbs may help maintain the health of the liver, they can't kill the virus... which is what is damaging your liver.

Why are you so afraid of the treatment? I've been on it for 32 weeks... I'm still alive, and so are a lot of others on here who have finished treatment and are now totally free from the virus.
