I echo what copyman wrote.
A transplanted liver gets damaged much faster than an 'original' liver, if one does not treat.
Your boyfriend is doing REALLY well. Undetected by week 2 is great!!! He really could not be doing any better than that!!
Thanks everyone, Bill you are absolutely right I project my fears constantly regarding this issue, it doesn't help that I work in the hospital and see the worse case scenarios...thank you everyone for calming my panick..
the way i read it that other person had a transplant 15 yrs ago and never treated the HCV. If they would have treated sooner there is a very good possibility they would have never advanced to this point.
The others have givin you some good advice regarding your boyfriend.
Best of luck.
I think you’re fears are unfounded. Generally, a person with late fibrosis or early cirrhosis has a much better prognosis than you describe. The particular patient you mention might have other issues at play right now; there’s no way of knowing without talking with her doctors.
In short, try not to project your fears based on individual prognosis.
It sounds as though your boyfriend is well on his way to getting this behind him… good luck to you both—
Bill
I know of at least one member who posts here who has lived with the diagnosis of cirrhosis for close to 20 years. Genotype 3 undetected at two weeks means he is almost sure to beat the virus. After that, it will be up to him to take the best possible care of himself. Give him my congratulations on the two week undetected.
Your boyfriend is actually doing great - undetected in 2 weeks - that's really-really-really good news. He falls into RVR category, which has the highest chances of achieving sustained virologic response. He doesn't have signs of decompensation - so his prognosis should be pretty good. Remember, that once he is done with treatment and ahieves SVR, then his liver functions will improve. Liver is such an organ that can heal itself within 7 years, slowly but surely, that is, of course, if your boyfriend takes care of himself and lives a healthy lifestyle.
