alcohol and hep c

i have a question. I was check for std and hep c came up. The doc said i had the antibodies of hep c but no virus. So im curious is it ok for me to drink?

i went to a gastro and they checked my blood and i did do a ultrasound and everything came back normal. The said i had no virus just antibodies. I forgot to ask is alcohol ok for me. Im going back monday for a follow up

Yes, ask your doctor for: RNA-PCR, then you knew for sure, and the liver enzymes: ALT and AST. If the hospital have fibro-scan, they can tell you how good shape your liver are.

The antibodies for HCV in your blood indicate you have been exposed to the virus at one time or another.  You may already have damage to your liver. Drinking alcohol or taking too much Tylenol (>1500 mg /day) should be avoided. Doctor should have ordered a liver panel set of blood tests with a viral count.  You should also have a ultrasound done of your liver to check for nodules or swelling.  Find a Gastro specialist or a doctor that specializes in liver disease. I was infected by HCV in 1972 and didn't find out I had it until 2003. By that time my liver was 90% scarred and damaged (stage 4 level 3 cirrhosis).  I almost died but I miraculously got a new liver in 2008.

If you cleared the virus on ur own,you have no liver damage fom hep c...so you can drink all u want,if this want u want to do.but remember,alchol can cause liver damage if you drink in excess
