Alternative Treatments

Hi All - I'm new to the forum though a member of other on-line support groups in Canada.  I am the spouse of someone who is HCV positive and diagnosed in 1992.  At that time he was stage 3/4 as per his liver biopsy.  He underwent treatment in interferon/ribaviran therapy in 2001 for 7 months and was a genotype 1b non-responder.  For the past few years, his VL and alts have been low.  Lately they have spiked considerably.  He's 56 and the first treatment took a tremendous toll on his health - so much so that his specialist is reluctant to put him on treatment again given that his chances of success are low.  Here's my question - we want to use alternative therapies until something better than pegasys comes along. Of course, he'll consult with his doctor about it.  I've read about sho-saiko-to on this site along with a few others.  Does anyone have any experience with alternative therapies and what have the results been? Thanks so much for your help.

Hello.

How is your tx going? It seems like the shosaikoto is merely something to keep you stabilized.. would you agree?

hope you're well

Hi,  I was using sho-saiko-to for about 4 months prior to treatment, I noticed I felt better.  I did not have my blood work done after using it, so I don't know if it had made a difference there.  I ordered it online www.honso.com.  They do not recommend for use with interferon and to discontinue 2 weeks prior to treatment.  I used another Chinese tea back in 2000, that I have tried to find without any luck.  It was granules just like sho-saiko-to, but it tasted a lot better.  The closest thing that I have found to it is Liver Enhancer by HerbaSway  www.herbasway.com.  I am using that while on tx.
I hope this is helpful.
God Bless,
Rose

You can check over at another website: curezone.com
They are using a hydraenga formula. I never used sho-saiko-to. I used Dr. Zhang's herbs at sinomedresearch.org
Best wishes to you and your husband.
