Please help Finished treatment

Hello,
I had hep c and geno 4. I was on treatment for 3-months. At my final blood work which was two weeks after the end of treatment., the HCV came up not detectable. However, my ast and alt levels are still high. The dr said not to worry about that because it could be from anything. However im still worried, He said to go back in 3-months for another blood work. Should i be worried about the Alt and Ast levels( Alt 67, AST 81).

I just took a look back at my AST and ALT records, to give you an accurate count.   Prior to treatment they were 71/66.   During treatment  22/18.  Post treatment 38/32.  In my situation 50% or so of all my #s were way off while on Riba/Sovl mix.
Not a doc but perhaps some thoughts as to possible causes.  Thyroid, Auto Immune disorders, Tylenol, Cirrhosis, even inflammation in the body such as gastritis can cause these numbers to elevate.  Maybe you can do some detective work and try to think if anything in your life has changed.  I do know for myself, it took 3 months for everything to settle down.
I would probably follow my docs advice as he said to wait 3 months, but if your worried perhaps get some bloodwork sooner.  The elevation in these enzymes do not mean that your liver is scarring itself, but rather inflamed somehow by an objecting agent.  Usually when you find the source and take appropriate measures to eliminate it, the #s go back to normal.  I have seen some people whose #s were 500+.
I hope whatever the cause, it becomes resolved.
Take care.    ...Kim

Hi Kim,

Thank you soo much. I have a question. Were you alt/ast elevated right after treatment. When did they go back to normal levels.

The meds that we take for the treatment of Hep C are very potent.   It's very common for our blood work to be all over the place.  I finished Sovaldi and Ribavirin 3 months ago, and my labs are just now back to normal.  According to my hepatologist, you should not worry til about 2-3 months post if they are abnormal.   The Ast and Alt indicate inflammation in the liver and could have many reasons why.   With that in mind you would want to avoid alcohol,  over the counter meds and otherwise, and any other sources that are toxic to the liver.  Your doc says to recheck in 3 months, but if worried, ask for tests sooner.  Try to flush your body with water, and be diligent with your health.   Take care.    ...Kim

I agree with your doctor on this. Sense you are still und and really your levels are not really that out of range. Hang in there. Best to you.
