Tested positive in 1992

I stopped having liver enzime tests about 20 years ago. My husband also was positive, he died from liver cancer for cirrocis of liver. I was told by a doctor that alot of people who test positive also test positive for RA. There is some kind of connection and it makes the hep C test a false positive. I never have had any symptoms and my husband was also told he didn't have it anymore cause he tested neg. when got sick with cancer. Could I still have it?

Hepatitis C infection is associated with increased rates of many autoimmune diseases, including RA.  But autoimmune diseases are still pretty uncommon.

If you had chronic hepatitis c, it would not have gone away on it's own.

I don't think RA can cause a false positive hep c test.  You better get checked out.  They call HCV "the silent killer" for a reason.

So you and you husband tested positive for Hepatitis C.  Your husband died of liver cancer.  But during his diagnoses with liver cancer, your husband was told he didn't have hepatitis C.   I don't know if a lot of people who test positive for RA also test positive for hep C. But there are claims it can be connected.  You might get a false positive RA test with Hepatitis C.  But not the other way around because of RA.

Can you still have Hepatitis C?

Your sure can and you should take the time to confirm your positive Hepatitis C with a viral load test if you haven't already.   There are stellar advancements in hepatitis C treatment.  You should confirm your status and ask your doctor about treatment if needed,

Best to you
